Re: Air conditionin function overview and retrofit/repair thread

Been building up a new life in Southern California these past couple years, but looking to get back on the BigCoupe horse this summer. Figured I'd start posting again.

I recall I pulled the diagram from RealOEM.com. You can do all your parts lookups there.

Re: bmw m635 itb,s

Sounds like you are talking about the balancing ports. You connect your manometer to them, and then are able to balance out the intake flow. Best approach is to use a liquid, 6-port manometer. The caps are just plain old black rubber.

Re: Where to buy a parallel flow condenser?

In my thread below you can see how I bought an aftermarket and fitted it quite easily. I did make some custom hoses, but you could have them made, and buy adapters to use original stuff too.

Re: E24 M6 chase in Lethal Weapon 2

This car chase scene is what triggered my love affair with the E24 M6. In all other movies the car engine sounds get dubbed in with something else. In LW2, you heard the true M6 exhaust note. I thought that was the most impressively melodious exhaust tone I had heard, and decided that one day I woul...

I will add that you might need bubble flare on the ends. I can't remember for sure. If it's bubble flare, you probably won't find that tool for loan, or purchase locally. I picked one up online, and have used it several times. Works awesome in the vice. A little more of a pain to do manually under a...

I wouldn't seek out that artists' music, but I'd be ok if it was on at a bar, bistro, etc.

I like how prominently the 6er is featured!

Re: Replacement battery pack for cordless power tool

I bought into the Ryobi1 tool family at least 15 years ago. I couldn't justify the cost of Makita or DeWalt, so the original, blue NiCd powered tools (drill, impact drill, circular saw) were a stopgap solution. Then Ryobi put out the green, LiON battery powered units, which were WAY more powerful, b...

Re: M635 Radiator and replacement options

I recommend buying your radiator from FCP Euro ( https://www.fcpeuro.com/ ). Everything they sell comes with a genuine lifetime warranty. Under heavy use, it's not uncommon for the radiators in these old girls to eventually leak. That's an inherent issue with a plastic/aluminum radiator. With a life...

Interesting. I always thought of "spit balling" as common vernacular across pretty much all types of people (in the U.S. at least). Yep, that's what I meant Ken. Glad it was a simple thing on your 83. I recall that when I got my little 2002 many moons ago, the guibo was completely broken a...

Re: 1988 Hard Start, Stumble, Dies

One very sneaky leak is the oil dipstick. If you don't have a good seal at the stick, or down where it connects to the pan, you will get that rough running condition. Same thing could happen if your oil cap has a bad seal, or if the oil drain tube from head to block has bad seal.

If you go to the Walker site, and look up your car, they seem to sell a complete system as well that includes a catalytic.

Re: M88/S38B35 thermostat housing reproduction

Ok folks, Soooo....... what do we think is the absolute maximum temperature that the thermostat housing could experience? Let's assume there actually is coolant in the system, but the car has just plain overheated. How high do we think the mounting surfaces of the front cover would spike to? How abo...

Re: Clutch time + ??

Just spit balling, but maybe it could be the bottom of the shifter touching the driveshaft when in forward pitched gear positions. I'd get under the car and see if there is a ring of wear around the driveshaft.

Re: My aftermarket exhaust is too loud!

If you are hunting for a nice, and quiet solution then stay away from all the performance biggies (Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc.). From what I have read, Walker is supposed to make a bunch of versions with a goal of being quiet first. You should check out their site and see if anything could be...

Re: M6 starter

I see no other way to do the starter, besides pulling the plenum. I put a slightly longer drain hose on the bottom too, so that I can lift it just a bit, and pull it off. That really helps, but still gravity drains to the pan. I posted this comment in another starter thread, but I have found the bes...

Re: Power steering hose

When I replaced my pump, the friggin power steering feed hose was a pain to source for some reason. I tried a couple different brands thinking the clamp would seal, but they leaked until I bought the metric, BMW hose.

Hope you can find the hoses quick.

Re: My aftermarket exhaust is too loud!

I built my own exhaust, and my setup runs a Moroso spiral flow as a center resonator, then a Magnaflow DBX at the tail end. The combination pulls the drone out of the pipe, but leaves it with a deep burble and some bark on decel. I feel that is an ideal combination.

Re: Tail light frames and lenses a bit rough but free

There are modern products that spray on, and give a painted finish that looks like true chrome.

https://youtu.be/A6kypid0XG0

The simplest solution is to prep (I'm thinking glass bead blast) a frame, sand it, prime it, paint it gloss black, then hydro chrome it.

If you wanted that to really look more like the original, you could spray the edge with plasti-dip, or some other rubberizer to simulate the foamy part of the spoiler.

Re: Short Shift Kit

As a side note, the bushings for my shifter platform has some slop, so I turned my own from some delrin. My shifter platform is now rock solid, with zero lateral wobble. I kept the rear soft bushing, so there is still some up/down play for when the powertrain shifts.
