Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

Hello all, Just read the last response from Wattsmonkey. I had promised a (now) lo...ng time ago to add some more to the topic in order to eventually finish the story, unfortunately I just haven't got around to it. I have some half finished text on the PC together with selections of photo's which I ...

Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

Well yesterday (Sunday) I spent some time composing this next part only to find that when I tried to submit it the BB server had crashed with an SQL fault - lost everything - multiple expletives  . Shame I had no access otherwise I probably could have fixed it. But anyway, glad that the forum ...

Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

Part 5: Pulleys and belts - final. Having no airco on my shark I could only assume that the compressor location would be on the right hand side of the engine - it's the only place available AFAICS. Whatever, there are location points so I decided to use them to relocate the alternator. IMG_1275.jpe...

Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

OK - so to get back to the original thread - but where was I? Part 5: Pulleys and belts - cont'd. The pulleys for the water pump and p/s pump shown in the previous post would be driven by one belt and were set up as shown in the following photo. You will notice an extra jockey wheel which I installe...

Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

@plip Hahaha. If you only knew the truth. I'm no trained engineer - I wish. Things did not go right in my last (6th form) school year as my mother was dying from cancer and my grades were not so good. Couldn't do what I wanted at Uni, had huge arguments with my dad, left home and dropped out. Amongs...

Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

@wattsmonkey (and maybe other interested parties) Yes - sorry, remiss of me, been a bit busy of late  . Strange I seem to be busier since I retired than when I was working. Sometimes wonder how I found the time to do any paid work LoL. Keep promising myself to sit at the PC and write a couple ...

Part 5: Pulleys and belts - cont'd. Below is a photo of the installed crank pulley and the belt fitted on the oem pulley behind it, that drives the alternator but I'll get to that later. IMG_1411.jpeg The other parts of the crank pulley are the multirib section, of course, but this drives only the ...

Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

Part 5: Pulleys and belts Hi, Good god I just noticed that the last instalment was back at the end of November, doesn't time fly. Sometimes wonder how I ever found time to fit in work back in the days before retirement. There was my birthday followed by Christmas and I've also been working on a cou...

@baders , Just looked through the email archive - it was Merlin Motorsport in UK ( https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk ). They've been around for donkey's years and are located at the Castle Combe race circuit near Chippenham in Wiltshire. Got the hoses and unions in the same order. I used to buy fr...

Re: E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

Part 4a: Mounting the Supercharger Hi, Sorry for the delay - other business to attend to. While working on the previous intake design I was also busy with the supercharger placement - they are, of course, completely interdependent. As I said in Part 2, some things would need to be moved to accommod...

I wasn't sure what to describe next as a lot of what was going on in 2017 was jumping from sub project to sub project as they were so interdependent and we ended up with a lot of pa...

Re: those pesky headlight wash/wipe bits....

Hi James, Now if I recollect correctly (been a while  ) as long as the system is switched on (via the wipers, lights and the relay) you will always have power on those wires - it's the rotary switch that runs the cycle . When the system is switched off the cycle will complete but won't get the...

E24 M30B34 Supercharger project

Hi all, As a precursor to this topic I would like to inform everyone that my days as big coupe owner are over, mine was sold in January this year. Now almost 69 I found that physically working on the car was getting to be a struggle. Most notably last year when trying to solve my Hydro Brake Mystery...

Re: those pesky headlight wash/wipe bits....

Been a while since this thread was active but I received a notification via email. @Candycj1 (didn't sign your real name). If you are so sure that your testing was 100% then my first thought would be a problem in the connector. Maybe it was just some corrosion which has been partially cleaned by the...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

@Brucey, I think that all you said is probably correct and my approach took it all into account. I think the most probable culprit is the vane action. Anyway a new one will arrive on Wednesday. Did you take a look at the document update? Would you like to add or correct anything to it yourself? if s...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

Getting back to my H31 woes. After the provisional repair turned out so well I thought it should probably be engineered a little better than a couple of bits of foil to stabilise the pins. You will have seen the movement of the pins in the video in the earlier post. The hole size was getting on for ...

Hello All, Just a update to say that I updated the H31 Hydraulic Brake System document with some changes, improvements, and in response to the comment from Brucey BTW I like your pdf very much but it is perhaps worth adding a comments/footnotes section; one comment I would make is that the brake ser...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

So just to be absolutely clear, by "servo" you mean the relevant (rear section) part of what I'd probably describe as the brake master cylinder assembly (as totally distinct from the regulator/accumulator assembly? In the H-31 descriptive article (very helpful btw) it would be item 3 in t...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

Phil, I was just looking through that document of mine from earlier in the post and remembered this paragraph. 4.2.3: Leak test DS regulator and brake unit a) If the accumulator pressure on the gauge display drops by more than 5 bar within 5 minutes, the reverse flow line must be open at the DS regu...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

As a slight aside, do you know if a pump off an E34 535 would be a potential straight replacement for my current one. It's a different part no but I note that it is rated to 130bar which I think it correct for the E24? There are two part numbers on the tag but I can't read the one in the middle. Th...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

Pity you already ordered from eBay. I have one I purchased for very little money from a salvage company here in NL. It was swapped in during my search for a solution. It was in good condition with both pressure sensors still installed. Cheapest new I found was a parts supplier in Germany where I got...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

Does this mean a new accumulator is going to be needed? I think I read somewhere that they're not serviceable? I don't think the accumulator itself would cause the leakdown, more likely the valves in the regulator. You might be able to flush any crud out. New one is expensive! For some reason realo...
