Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
That's a whole bunch of aux radiators! I'm loving the undertray, too - have I missed a post on this? If not, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to hear the story. I don't think I have told the story of the undertray...needless to say it's been through many iterations and taken many years to &...

Removed curved blade aux fan and "upgraded" to a SPAL VA18-AP701LL-86S. I tried the slimline version, but it's no good at all compared to the OEM fan - it just doesn't blow much air. You can just about see it behind the plethora of aux radiators: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5357361...

Just for information the picture below shows what you get when you buy a new unit from BMW: https://live.staticflickr.com/6067/6056576320_38fe9bc354_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/6193/6056029491_1170601174_c.jpg The one in my car was missing everything on the rear side and this maybe the same ...

Re: Power Steering Reservoir Filter - Has Anyone Ordered one Recently?
I always order my parts directly from the local BMW dealer. Not sure whether the filter is still available. In case it's useful I drew this picture a few years ago as I have refurbed the power steering reservoir on several occasions. Note the rubber gasket seal at the bottom, which may be missing or...

If you have a limited slip diff then you need something like this: Castrol TRANSMAX Limited Slip LL 75W-140, which is much heavier and contains additives for the LSD.

Re: Welding
I did this a few years ago and would spray zinc weld through primer on the new pieces of metal that I welded in. Not sure how much this really helps, but the important bit is the wax. I used Noxudol 700 to fill the cavities. I did this by blocking all the sill drain holes then removed the rear seat ...

Re: Fuel pressure dropping
Just to add some detail to my post above about fuel pressure dropping. Here are some readings I took on a relatively warm day (21oC): 2.7 bar at shutdown, ie idle pressure 3.0 bar after 20 mins 2.4 bar after 1 hour 1.1 bar after 2 hours 0.0 bar after 7 hours Not sure exactly when it went to zero, bu...

Rear light frame and heater control slider. UK based.
Hi, I'm after a rear light frame (the one with the studs in it) for the right side of the car. I also need a heater control slider, ie the bit that connects to the bowden cable and has a little LED in it and is prone to snapping at the knob mount... Thanks Nick I'm based in the UK and found out that...

Re: Fuel pressure dropping
Are you expecting the residual fuel pressure to be maintained overnight? I wouldn't expect full pressure to be maintained for more than 20-30 mins and then gradually fall to zero after a few hours depending on temperature. I'm lucky enough to have an in-car fuel pressure gauge so I can monitor this ...

Re: RHD Centre Drag Link
I replaced my centre drag link 100,000 miles ago and it's still in perfect condition. I wonder if there are certain factors which make it wear out faster? For example, I NEVER turn the steering wheel if the car is stationary as this puts great stress on the steering components. Do large heavy alloy ...

Re: windscreen wash pumps
The pumps, seals, hose and other fittings were available back in Jan 2019, and I suspect they are still available now. Don't forget to order new rubber seals for the pumps and it's worth getting new electrical plugs as well because the old ones will probably be broken. I added quick connectors for t...

Re: How often do you REALLY flush your brakes?
I flush my brakes once a year without fail as I don't want to have to replace the ABS, master cylinder or calipers themselves because of corrosion. I live in the driest place in the United Kingdom, but I use my car at all times of the year and the roads are salted around here. #-o When I upgraded my...

I use a CTEK charger connected to this: https://live.staticflickr.com/7200/6874697209_bb2523e5de_c.jpg It's a DIN socket, so slightly smaller than a cigar lighter and it's protected by a 7.5amp fuse. Did you mean it has a 150 ECU instead of a 179?
How can a 059 ECU be installed in such a late 635...unless of course it is not an 89?
I'm not an expert on the earlier cars, so there may be a simple explanation for it.

Re: CPS part # for 11/87 highline / b35 / motronic 1.3
Yes, I have replaced the CPS on my Highline but realised that the parts catalogue doesn't list the correct part. I found the correct part number by looking at the E34 M30 car and got this: 12141720857. The part number you gave is wrong for the highline, as you suggest. If you google the part number ...

Might be a bit late for you now but here is what I noted down when I took it apart: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50481734687_49e656a83b_k.jpg You can double up on the final to C-clips, but it's hard work and probably not required, in fact mine only had one when I first took it apart. Looks like the mounting for the M-Tech side skirts. Have you contacted a BMW dealer directly?
How many do you need? I may possibly have a few, but not many.

Re: OH NO! California wants to ban gas powered vehicles
It will affect your power grid... You're not wrong there. The UK Government wants to move the target to 2030, ie no petrol or diesel cars to be sold after that. I would assume the sale of petrol and diesel fuel will continue for many decades after this date, but who knows? I have an electric car, b...

Re: Air con compressor for 1989 highline in the UK?
I bought a "new" one from BMW a couple of years back and it was a hassle to fit because it has slightly different connectors on it. I had to get a local aluminium welder to "modify" one the connections. Cost the best part of 1000GBP and that included the "core" refund y...

What years E34 M30 535 can that bracket be found on? May be headed to the salvage yard and want to make sure I pull the right part. Thanks in advance! I believe the M30 engine was discontinued in the E34 around 1993, so anything between 1988 and 1993 would work. I actually bought mine new from BMW.

Re: AC belt issues
I used to get the belt on as much as I could and then crank the engine over and the belt would jump on.
I then decided to sort it permanently by fitting the a/c bracket from an E34 M30 535 (which is slightly longer) and using a very slighly longer belt (13 x 813).
