Re: Engine does not start
My apology for the belated update but the ECU was sent to AC Tronics (Germany) for repair. They were quite competent and I received the repaired ECU back within 10 days after shipment. One minor complaint I have with them is that there was no explanation with regards to what was the cause of the fai...

Re: Engine does not start
Paul,
IIRC, you helped me with the headlamps!
Thank you for the referral.
They were savvy about the ECU ignition signal failure.
Although they only accept repairs from workshops, I will
have it repaired via my friend here.
I live in Düsseldorf BTW.

Re: Engine does not start
Status update I took the M6 out again for a drive on Sunday, and before the ride I left the ignition on for 1 hour. The engine started normally and the problem did not surface. Yesterday, I wanted to give my car a wash so this time, I left the ignition on for 30 min and started the motor but the sym...

Re: Engine does not start
Hello Paul,
Thank you so much for the info!
This specialist is located not so far from where I live.
I will give them a call and inquire about the repair, and will write a brief update here.

Re: Engine does not start
Hi bpoliakoff,
Thank you for the tip!
I am trying to find a specialist in Germany where I currently live since I do not want to ship the ECU internationally.
The parcel service here is terrible and would like to avoid the ECU being lost in Transit.

Re: Engine does not start
Status update I've taken my M6 out for a drive twice since my last report. During the first drive, the symptom resurfaced but after a short attempt, the engine started. On my second drive, the symptom did not occur and I could drive it very normally. After contacting a BMW dealership specializing wi...

Re: Broken mount on dogleg gearbox
The E24 dogleg tranny is the same tranny in the E30 M3 so perhaps you can try to get parts for E30 M3.

Re: Engine does not start
Status update I did a little experiment to see whether the ECU was the culprit. Before taking her out for a ride, I turned the IGN and left it ON for about an hour to let the current flow. I then attempted to start the engine and it started after short cranking! It is becoming more certain that the ...

Re: Engine does not start
Hello hornhospital, Damaged solder points causing issues is a known problem to me from the forum here. IIRC, there was a tech article about how to resolder the solder points but I am not very confident with a solder iron and the 079 ECU is NLA so I would like to avoid the risk of damaging the ECU. I...

Re: Engine does not start
Hello rs6,
I have checked the fuel pump relay and they seem to be in working order.
The 2 reference sensor connectors have been connected properly, hence not the issue.
Fuse box probably also not the culprit.
This is why I assume it is the ECU/DME.

Engine does not start
Hello everyone, It certainly has been some time since I last posted here! A lot of water under the bridge, broken engine that took close to 3 yrs to repair, then Covid19. I would like to ask for the members help to a problem which I have never encountered before. Since about a month, I have had days...

Help Please! Urgently need original ECU 079 M6 engine mapping data
Hello Everyone, Due to an engine trouble I experienced last year, my M88 motor is currently being rebuilt. Hence my absence here. I was contacted by my mechanic asking for the original chip for the 079 ECU as I was running on Mark d'Sylva chips. After sending him the original, he informed me that th...

Re: Encountered a trouble since a LONG time! Vibration damper
Thank you for your comment, Hose. I will go right ahead any order the hubs from Frank Fahey. And your point on "non-factory assembled engine" may also be a factor too. Do we have something in the archive that could help me calculate the labor time in the factory? I just consulted a worksho...

Re: Encountered a trouble since a LONG time! Vibration damper
Hello Hose + Davem Thank you for your comment. You are right, the hub has started to oscillate and this is why I called ADAC. The driver told me that the engine should not be started at all to avoid further damage. I did some research on Frank Fahey's Crank hub and read his article which was very co...

Encountered a trouble since a LONG time! Vibration damper
Hello everyone, Today, I encountered a trouble that resulted in towing the car. This has not happened for a very long time as my M6 has been very reliable. Suddenly, the warning laps illuminated (CHRG, ABS, ETC) and power steering was gone. Then I hear a sound of plastic crushed but thought that I h...

The final outcome of this project ended up with no choice but to order the document from BMW since without the spec sheet, it would be impossible to get a TÃœV. Since this document contains first registration date, the original title would not be necessary. I guess I will have to accept this as nece...

Hello Ralph, The E30 registration ended up the conclusion that the document from BMW was necessary, one way or another... But 250 Euros for a paper! As for this gearbox adjustment procedure, I have seen this myself but have never performed it myself (i was told that this gearbox is quite delicate). ...

Excessive steering play
Hello everyone, I recently had the wheel alignment calibrated after replacing tie rods. Since I picked up the car, I realised that the steering's free play may be excessive (about 10 degrees). I am starting to think maybe the steering shaft rubber should be replaced. Is there any other cause of exce...

Once again, chiming MA resident for HELP!
After numerous email exchange with the RMV agent, I learned that a title duplicate is obtainable, but since the duplicate will be sent to the registered address on the title, an address change would be needed. In order to do so, one must have a MA drivers license and social security number, which I ...

Ken, Yes, i think you are right and auto manufacturers used to be much more cooperative. When I lived in Germany 25 yrs ago, I brought two cars over here. When I contacted them, namely Mazda and Toyota, although the former took 2 montgs and the latter 2 days, they gave me the data sheet for free. Up...

Hornhospital, Thank you for the build sheet! Update! After a series of email communication with an agent at DMV in MA, he told me that I may be able to obtain the title via VIN. I still have to figure out whether a COC document (issued for all Euro spec cars) in combination will suffice for registra...
