Thanks Baders,
Will pull the evaporator out to gauge its condition, a job for the holidays after Xmas.
Be good to catch up and talk E24's. I'll let you know when I plan to take the car to Perth (I'm 550 km away on the south coast) for its A/C fix post evaporator check.

Re: A/C Evaporator RHD
Baders, Thanks, those parts do look identical. Seems the pipes for both L and RHD variants probably enter/exit the car on the RHS. Hopefully another member or two will chime in with a check on that. See you and I are among a small handful on here in Western Australia. Have read your posts with inter...

A/C Evaporator RHD
Air conditioning system in my 1986 Australian-delivered (RHD) stunner is losing gas :( . I thought it was via a leak in one of the pipes above the driver's footwell. However, it turns out its likely a leaking evaporator as diagnosed by the aircon specialist I took it to (who also does my Discovery 3...

Re: SI Board Lithium batteries
The lit 'INSPECTION' doesn't have the annual inspection clock symbol next to it, thanks for the info there Nick. I'll try the hard reset again. If this doesn't work and I suspect it won't, it looks like its a board out again for a cap refurbishment - and thanks for the tips there and PDF Ken. I'd ra...

Re: SI Board Lithium batteries
Thanks Nick, Just put it all back together on the weekend. Replaced the twin 3v lithium batteries in what seems is a late model (1989) board or whole cluster in my 1986 car. Now I have the complete row of green lights, but 'Inspection' is still lit, despite doing the pin 7 to ground reset. Not sure ...

Re: SI Board Lithium batteries
Batteries arrived and just now getting around to replacing the dead pair. The PCB has a protective coating over the back of the pins - as the image shows. Seeking advice on how best to remove the old batteries and solder in new ones, should I scrape/heat the coating off the back of the board around ...

SI Board Lithium batteries
Dear All, Having the SI Inspection and orange and red lights on my E24 staying on despite earthing pin 7, and finding excellent info on here on cluster removal and battery replacement, removed the cluster and took it apart expecting to find dodgy 1.2 volt NiCad batteries. However, I find it has a si...

Re: CUSTOM / SPORTS EXHAUST OPTIONS
Meant to add my planned method to manage cabin boom/drone: I intend to try a system with no rear muffler, instead to have my local exhaust shop make me a replacement twin pipe set up, probably in 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch, with j pipes to remove the drone. Intend to make the J pipe length adjustable with ...

Re: CUSTOM / SPORTS EXHAUST OPTIONS
Hi Classicman, Ive just purchased a set of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192211358374 for my 1986 Aust delivered CSI. Haven't fitted 'em yet, being ceramic coated at the moment, so I cant help you with fitment details as yet. They look the goods and I had them recommended by GAZ M3 on a post a m...

Thanks Brucey and Gaz, some useful ideas there.
I had a look around online for anyone's use of the EMS headers and could find none, do you know of any examples of their use Gaz?
Cheers

Re: RHD Exhaust decision down under
Gaz, Good, thanks again for the added info. The image of the NSW headers did indeed suggest that the engine mount had to be undone and lifted or likely removed to allow fitment and then replaced. Bruceys explanation of his FRitzBits system fit clearly shows the No 1 pipe removeable. I'll contact the...

Re: RHD Exhaust decision down under
Gaz, Thanks, that's great! They look the goods - and they are down here in Oz - with ceramic coating available. Also appreciate your tips about the exhaust and the expansion chamber fitment, Sound is critical, has to match its look with the black Schnitzers. The M30 in mine is pretty cammy, sounds s...

RHD Exhaust decision down under
The exhaust on my RHD 1986 635 has begun to fall apart, not unexpectedly. Now I have a choice to make about replacement, which is not necessarily straightforward way down here in Western Australia. I'm not interested in the OEM system, and would like your opinions and sage advice please on whether t...

Re: Vibration from new propshaft
Reading this thread with interest, hoping it might help answer why my car has a varying slight to moderate vibration between 65-80 kph. Its been occurring since having the guibo replaced a few years ago, which was causing the typical thumping. The indy repairer assured me it was ok, although I was n...

May have aced it
Thanks Greg, Looks like I may have hit a winner with the sensor plug. It totally fell apart when looking at it today. Had been to my local BMW Centre, who had a sender and cable - without the plug - that I found out after driving 30km. Apparently the plug has been superseded and replaced with a roun...

No/intermittent start woes
Hi All, Have the dreaded no/intermittent start woes...Left my car for a month and went to start it, found a flat battery, charged battery, and no start and then it did start once, and then ok immediately again, left it for a while and no go etc etc. Have looked at all the posts on the subject and fo...

Thanks Brucey, I wondered whether many have ventured in there, given that there is likely not that many RHD A/C cars about. I'll have a few more looks and thinks about how, and then have to give it a go one way or another. I had a preliminary go at making up a tool to insert the screw under the nylo...

How to access the RT side of the A/C blower in RHD cars
Has someone out there has found a way to access the rear RT side of the A/C blower unit to access the fresh air flap servo and A/C transistor in a RHD E24? I.e., other than the complicated removal of the entire A/C unit. I have a loose servo and a kaput A/C transistor, and its a remote zone where th...

Thanks for all the great tips so far. Found the problem, and now know a lot more about that part of the car. Alas, have not found a way of getting at the servo motor mounting screws without major removal of significant things. It doesn't seem that removing the A/C/heater unit is going to be remotely...

Just today found the time to remove the console and have a look. The servo motor on the RHS (drivers side in my case) moves when it is turned on, i.e. the whole servo moves as though it isn't fastened firmly. Given its on the drivers side its a long way back in there next to the steering column behi...
