Re: How to identify M635CSI diff casing please.

Place a jack under the diff then remove the cover mount bolt. You can then lower the entire subframe assembly to gain better access to the bolts on top of the diff. I use a 1/2 drive breaker bar and cheater pipe with a 19 mm 6-point socket to loosen the bolts. Ratchet the rest of the way. Of course ...

Re: FS: '89 635csi - The last unit produced globally

Yes, my car - the one discussed in this thread. That's a little misleading and adds to the confusion. Unless your car is the Bronzit car provided with the Plaque as an award, then yes your car is the one discussed in this thread. I think a better description would be that your car is the other car ...

Re: electric seat recline doesn't work

Cutting the sheath end is the best way to fix the cable issue. Using heat to remove and replace the steel end is easy but don't overheat it. Ends are very stable after replacing with heat. Have pliers ready to handle the heated parts Use (a drill driver if necessary) one loose end of the drive cable...

Re: How to identify M635CSI diff casing please.

This only applies to the first generation of rear cover BMW differentials as used in e23/e24/e28/e30. The Medium Case units have the Fill and Drain Ports in the Rear Cover. The Large Case unit has the Fill Port in the Cover and the Drain Port is located on the case under the left side drive flange. ...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Song is Patiently Motivated. Amazing attributes to add to his daring "Get it Done" attitude. As with anything we do to maintain these cars (except for Laser Alignment), buying the tools and learning the DIY can sometimes be more economical then having a shop take care of it. Paint work has become ou...

Re: Pilot / spigot bearing in crankshaft (M/T shaft support)

Not had the pleasure yet but with the Crank Flange threads available you should be able to mount a puller easily. Spray a little bit of fine lubricant to help release the “bond” between the spacer and crank

06/83 Euro 635 (8181587) e28 base with 3.07 Medium Case (188 MM) LSD with an autobox in front of it. The M5/M6 cars were equipped with the Large Case (210 MM) LSD. They look very similar and unless you know the differences, a picture will not provide the "size" reference you need to determine which ...

Re: Pilot / spigot bearing in crankshaft (M/T shaft support)

I would opt for the Ball Bearing unit. I have seen multiple issues with the needle bearing coming apart as yours. The only issue I have encountered with the Ball Bearing unit was the trans input shaft had become semi fused to the inner race so I basically pulled the pilot bearing (with the trans) to...

Of course you know what to do!! But make a list of these small obscure but detail type parts and I'll see about getting them to you. I hate paying the USPS multiple times when I can stuff one of their flat rate boxes. BTW - these are what I have availlable. No 2-hole units. Ralph IACV Bracket.JPG

Re: Correct Gasket for In-Tank Fuel Pump

They are completely different. I have seen many euro setups with the O-Ring while most US are built with the Gasket Ring with 6 holes for the mounting flange bolts. Not interchangeable as you can tell if you have both seals in hand. The O-ring applies to the system without an In-Tank Pre-Supply Pump...

Agreed that you put lots of beautiful, serious work into the car. Not what I would do but I can appreciate the beauty of what it is. Thanks for the tease :D Ralph

Let me see what I can find Bobbo. I have lots of roundels but the e24 rear has an extreme curve.

Use dental floss to get under the roundel to remove it. You probably already know though.
