Re: Rear Light Panel Access

As said above, you might break some of the plastic plugs due to plastic age. Try also and support the lining cardboard under the carpet with some sort of fork type thing or screwdriver.

Re: Leave factory height or H&R springs?

I replaced the lower spring setup that was there when I bought the car, and replaced it with standard springs. It made it more comfortable and I also preferred the look (but that's a personal opinion), and I didn't have to worry about speed bumps anymore. I also added 10mm spacers front and back bec...

Re: Starter motor won't crank engine

Thank you for that. I have looked at that as well, although I can't really make sense of it.

Yesterday, the car started fine whether cold or hot so it's not a life and death situation.

Re: Starter motor won't crank engine

The starter turns fine when I directly energises the solenoid, and with ignition on, the engine starts and runs fine. I can also hear a loud relay noise under the dashboard, behind the central console when I turn the key so it's not the ignition switch. Is there another relay in the circuit somewhere?

Re: Starter motor won't crank engine

I managed to start the engine by hot wiring the starter direct to the battery, and engine started immediately.

After shutting it down, I tried with the key and it worked fine. :-$

I'm going to keep that piece of wire in the glove box just in case.

Starter motor won't crank engine

Hi, I have had an intermittent issue with the starter motor not turning when the engine was hot. I could hear a relay in the dashboard but that was all. With the engine cooled down, the starter motor would work fine and so would the car. As it was happening more and more, and based on what I read on...

Re: Which fuse?

The check panel does indicate a problem with lights as it should, even with the shunt and the lights working.

Where is the emergency switch you mention?

Thank you

Re: Which fuse?

A bit more info... It's the pin 58R at the rear which doesn't get juice. I cheated temporarily by shunting 58L to it, and both front and rear position lights work. Which means that the circuit is fine, just not getting power somewhere. It makes me think that the light switch could be faulty but look...

Which fuse?

Hi all,

The right front position light (1st position of light switch) and rear position light have stopped working.

I see they work from the same fuse but so do other lights which are working so I'm a bit confused.

Is there something I'm missing?

Re: OBC dsiplay gone dark

The light bar went past that, but on mine the screw is missing so there might have been enough movement. Tried to fit a new screw afterwards but its nigh on impossible and I have a loose screw somewhere below it now...

Maybe gentle persuasion might help in your case.

Re: Hydraulic light adjustment

As indicated earlier in the thread, I cannot see how those things can be professionally repaired, let alone DIY. They were still available from BMW a couple of years ago. They are for left hand drive cars but they fit.

Re: OBC dsiplay gone dark

Light bar arrived, radio removed, pliers to pull the light bar out, swapped new for old, inserted back and lo and behold, it works!

Thank you again.

Re: OBC dsiplay gone dark

I ordered the garagistic thing.

Is that common for both bulbs to blow out at the same time? Or is it that if one blows, the other won't work?

Hi Daz,

Thank you very much for that. The numbers are still visible and seem to function as expected so I will do what you suggest.

Is the light bar consisting of normal bulbs?

Re: Engine temperature

I thought I'd give an update. Finally got round to changing the thermostat with OEM, which was a lot easier than I expected. Temperature needle is now right in the middle. I think I also found the reason of the hesitation fortuitously...the vacuum hose going to the pressure regulator, although chang...

OBC dsiplay gone dark

Hi all, I wondered if someone has gone through the experience of an OBC display gone dark suddenly? I think the info are still displayed, just not backlight. Also, whilst pressing the buttons to see if it made a difference, the timer button's red light came on and is not going off. Is that related? ...

Re: Engine temperature

Sorry for the lack of follow up, time flies by and the car is in my garage, away from the salty roads! I'm sorry Brucey, but I fear I have no idea what you are saying... TB: Throttle body and TPS: throttle position sensor? Where is the gap you are talking about? Any tech articles I could read to get...

Engine temperature

Hi, My engine runs fairly cold according to the gauge, ie the needle indicates just after the blue zone (about 1/4 of the range) instead of the middle as I would expect. How can I check whether its a sensor/gauge issue or an engine issue? Would that affect fueling? Emissions are in range according t...

Re: Speedo signal lost

Finally got round to lift the car and have a look at the speed sensor in the rear differential, and as luck would have it, one of the wires was broken at the plug. Repaired that and all is well.

Funny how it decided to happen whilst the car was not being used.

Anyway, on to the next issue...

Re: Speedo signal lost

OBC is working as its supposed to, except it doesn't get mileage so range or fuel consumption are wrong obviously. A total mistery why I should lose that signal, although it's obviously something I did.

Re: Brake bomb

I have the owners manual, it's just that it is temporarily misplaced... So it wasn't the pad sensor (truth be told, it was in perfect condition) but I drove the car 50 miles today on b roads with no red flashing light. I assume it took the system a while to get rid of trapped air maybe? All is well ...

Re: Speedo signal lost

So nowhere near when I fiddled. In the spirit of it must be something I did, the other thing I did was to remove the cam cover to change its gasket. So I removed the air box, MAF and the rubber hoses. I also disconnected the plugs to the MAF and idle sensor (I think that's what it is called). I was ...

That's what I thought.

The weird thing is that I didn't go anywhere near that sensor. Could I have disturbed the wiring?
