Re: 1980 635CSi Euro
I have been sucessfully driving the car again this last week. Black on black makes it a bit difficult in the summer, so this is the perfect time. I do believe the distributor is different US vs Euro as it runs good at full operating temp, but it seems the advance might be different in cold start, it...

Sorry to hear about the challenges, but I guess that might be expected for a car that was pretty much off the road for 3+ years and an owner who didn't seem to really know how to fix things themselves.
Any use from the car this summer? Any photo updates?

Re: Turbocharging a 628csi
Not sure there is a kit for Ljet car.
I think your compression is about 9:1. Gotta find the components and figure out your plan to turbocharge it piecemeal.

Re: 1980 635CSi Euro
Yesterday I was able to try out the car after suspecting the impulse sender being the problem. I thought my spare distributor was bad but it turns out that the replacement ignition control module was causing my issues. With the original ICU box in place, original ECU, original coil, the car was able...

Re: 1980 635CSi Euro
So the other day I started the car successfully a few times in a row and got it to operating temp. For some reason the new Ignition Control Module was not working so it has been working with the old box. I confirmed all 3 combo relays work. I used original coil and had previously replaced CTS. The E...

Re: 1980 635CSi Euro
Thanks Andy! I haven't gone in depth like this but I do wonder if some of it has to do with the lack of a cat. convertor. When I get it running again I will have to try that solution as I previosuly found a cracked exhaust manifold. I am following along with Robert's euro E12 that seems to have simi...

Re: 1980 635CSi Euro

OK, right out of an actual wire bound hard copy electrical troubleshooting manual please refer to the attached PDF =D> And as per Brucey (like he's ever wrong #-o ) the red/blk wire goes to the + side of the coil and the blk wire goes to the - side  On my '80, that green wire from the dizzy d...

Re: What to do with 1983 BMW 745 Euro???
It is a rare car and should be restored, in my opinion. I agree. Even for lemons the turbo engine will not be reliable enough for you to be competitive, especially when the turbo or wastegate fails. The most important thing there is running reliably and making lap after lap. So I would say upgrade ...

Hope it passes as the smog rules are silly for collector cars that are not the mass market.

Car is sold with a buyer from CA currently driving it back there. Happy to say it went to an enthusiast looking specifically for an E12 euro reminding him of a previous 630CS. Hoping he will join the board and post his progress on the project. I only have the RC090 wheels remaining available for pur...

1981 635CSi For Sale - Euro Spec M90
Looking to sell my 1981 635CSi project. I bought it from the original owner who imported it from Germany. It lived in Texas before being brought to Colorado in the early 2000's. I bought it non running and have rebuilt the head and headgasket and gotten it road worthy again with Motronic 1.3 swap fr...

Re: Relay 1364654
Mine went out on the '81 car I have and I retrofit the later E28 based relay. You just have to look at the wiring pinout and it will work just the same.
$15 or already in your parts bin if you go that route. It's a 3 prong relay and the ground wire from the old relay simply isn't used.

FS: 1981 635CSi ECU & AFM 002
For sale, ECU and matching AFM from 1981 635CSi. I believe it is working but can not confirm the ECU is 100%. The car ran but did not rev on this setup. Turns out the reference flywheel pin was causing the problems so we upgraded to M1.3. I have these parts for the rare 1981 635CSi which is M90 with...

Re: 1981 635CSi - Ascot Grau
Spent a bit more time on the car tonight. Installed a new flasher relay (e28 3 pin style) as the 4 pin wasn't working. Working turn signals are sort of important :-" :-" Checked and now have full lighting and power to fog light wires even though there are no fogs. Working turn signals and rear euro ...

Re: 1981 635CSi - Ascot Grau
I spent a bit more time on small projects on the '81. I installed my NEW Hella euro headlights. High beams and low beams are all set up with euro parts, so city lights are operational again :) The light's weren't working properly but are now. Again, I am amazed at the lack of rust on this car, on th...

Re: US M30b32 with M90 head
The cam will likely be the less duration head so it will actually be a downgrade. The early 533/633 had the better cam and lighter flywheel.

Re: 1981 635CSi - Ascot Grau
Now 20 miles on the car, I am starting to believe the rebuild was a success-- the engine is running smoothly and slowly smoking less and less! I suspect the oil consumption is just burning off of oil from the exhaust manifolds that were on the car with the other cylinder head (the one that was crack...
