Re: Expansion tank level going up...

The electric fan is supposed to come on when the coolant reaches a certain (REALLY HIGH) temperature, but normally it runs only when the A/C is on.

Re: OBC Questions

Thank you for that link! I'm going to be the guinea pig. I ordered a repair kit for one of the small OBCs (in my E30). If it works (in other words, if I don't screw it up) I'll get one for the OBC in my 633. Amazingly, the OBC in my far more abused 635 still works!

Re: Good things begin on Jan. 12, 2009!!

I was being semi-factious, but everything I've seen/read/heard about California is that it's a wonderful place to live (albeit VERY expensive), but has some of the most ridiculous regulations about cars and modifying them. Your idea of turboing is a prime example. When done correctly it would vastly...

Move to a state that doesn't think it needs to be a nanny to you on everything you do. It'd be easier to list what California DOESN'T regulate than what it does. You: [-o< "Can I make this modification that will improve everything about this car, including lowering every measurable type of pollution...

Re: AC hose removal

Classic "mission creep". Start out to change oil and end up rebuilding everything, "while you're in there". I know it well. That's why I took 5 years to do an engine swap in my buddy's E30. EVERYTHING got rebuilt/replaced/upgraded.

Bit of advice: go back and strip every part you can off the salvage yard E24, even if you think you'll never need them. You may not ever have another chance like this to gather a spare parts supply.

Re: Short Shift Kit Install - Pictorial and Videos

That ring of heavy plastic was to help you install the rubber boot. You use it much like the "rope trick" when installing a windshield. You start the boot into the chassis hole and pull the plastic ring through the hole. It rolls the boot lip right on to the lip of the hole.

I wouldn't buy from them, or at least not buy their"warranty". Look at the reviews. HUGE numbers of customers that needed lights replaced under warranty and no satisfaction. They are ignored by HIDNation's customer service.

Re: Repair to black sealant/wiring loom

The mention of Zylene as a clean-up agent brings to mind a quart of the stuff I bought years ago. On the front of the can in large letters it said "ZYLENE"...and just below that the warning "CAUTION: MAY CONTAIN ZYLENE!" Really???
That was one of those head-shaking moments.

Re: I'm confused about hub size 74.1-72.56

Your hubs are 72.56mm, not 74.1 as you stated. All E24s have the same 72.56mm hubs. I think you just got confused and listed it backwards.
You've figured out you need hub hubcentric 72.56 to 74.1 rings. Most tire stores carry them. Pep Boys I know has them.
