Re: Main relay has to be jumped to run car
When I got my 84 633 the OBC was inoperative (still is), at least visibly. I was pretty sure it was still functioning in the background. It started randomly activating the OBC, as though there was a code entered, disabling the car. No crank, no start, just dead, but jumpering the main relay as you a...

Any way the back light can be red? I'd possibly by interested! The red/orange tint of the cluster illumination (NOT the guage faces) is from the "light pipes" that bend/direct the light to illuminate the guages. You could replace the stock lights with red LEDs, but I wouldn't recommend it...

And as far as using the battery disconnect that Ken showed is concerned, I would have to reset all sorts of crap on my new stereo, not gonna happen [-X Who listens to the stereo while driving? I want to hear the M30 singing! 😉 I wasted several hundred dollars on a nice Kenwood system when I g...

i have also learned that the fuel hoses on my bimmers requires frequent inspections, since they deteriorate within 1-2 years. You can thank ethanol-blended fuel for that. There are ethanol safe hoses available at 2X the cost of regular hoses. It only takes a couple replacement cycles to exceed the ...

They are serviceable, but the starter will have to come off. I replaced the solenoid and bendix on my 633 several years ago. I got the replacement from WrongAuto (RockAuto), and it was wrong. There are two types of forked levers that go from the solenoid to the bendix. One has the fork ends that fit...

BMW owners manual says to disconnect the ground while charging. I guess the BMW engineers could be old wives.

Install one of these. When on the charger/trickle charger, or just in storage, lift the switch bar. It isolates the battery. I have one on every car, truck and even tractors and lawn mower I own, since it is sometimes months between uses.

My 84 633 has the airfoil dohicky on the wipers. They still lift off the glass at 100+ mph......not that I ever drive that fast, mind you.

Didn't some of the after-production modifier houses use a 6 digit VIN in place of the original BMW VIN? (Alpina, Dinan, etc.)

Re: 1970's Cars
Welcome to BigCoupe! The early E24s (70s to mid 1982) are substantially different from the later cars, and are somewhat harder to locate parts for, particularly body parts. If you have a choice between a non-runner with a rust-free body and a runner that has rusted out fenders and floorboards, get t...

The design of the differential. Older versions the ring gear is "loaded" through a side cover. Newer versions load through the rear like many diffs.

Your best bet is to message the seller through Facebook Marketplace. As he made clear in the posting he rarely checks messages here. Good luck.

Pressure testing the system will tell if you have a leak or blown head gasket. I borrowed a pressure tester often enough that I ended up buying one. Very handy.
