Re: Newbie saying hi

Looks nice.. . You bought TRXs or they did? The ones in the photos are old and I wouldn't drive too far on them. The receipt says 2010 that's pretty old in Tire life. Look at the tire pictures. https://cdn.bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/1550626851ef66e7dff9f98764daIMG_7580.jpeg https:/...

I hate you oil pan gasket... https://i.imgur.com/3tf8tyX.jpg But all kidding aside. I have moved further along and cleaned up the block and removed the old oil pan gasket it was a pain. I got a better scraper and moved pretty fast. Cleaned up the oil pan and pulled out the Cherry picker to li...

Re: paint or powdercoat?

You are over thinking this. The only person that will know its not exact OE silver is you. As long a all four wheels are the same you should be good. Powder is the way to go for longevity. Unless you have a painter that can blast and paint your wheels cheap. Style 8 wheels are not worth a lot so I w...

Re: 85 euro m635csi & m88/3 timing chain - my project

Reassembly.... I'm starting with the timing cover (New Front Crank seal installed). I like to use the type 3 aviation (brown goo) gasket sealant on my parts with paper gaskets and Toyota FIPG sealant in the corners. Personal preference.... Make sure you cut the paper gasket flush at the top and bott...

Re: 85 euro m635csi & m88/3 timing chain - my project

So I got the chain, sprockets, and guides on but the notches on the cams were not lining up. The exhaust cam was just one tooth off. I had to take the exhaust sprocket off move the cam back so the notch lines up and then try to put it back together. The trick is to hold the chain at the crank sprock...

Re: dual mass flywheel on a 1986 635 CSI issue

Are you sure it has a Dual Mass flywheel? Most M30b34s I've seen have single mass flywheels. B35 sometimes have Dualmass flywheels and sometimes the 528e with an M20 will have dual mass. http://www.m535i.org/officers/ra/rapics/dualmass1x.jpg Here is a pickup on my m30 singlemass flywheel when I did ...

Re: 85 euro m635csi & m88/3 timing chain - my project

Slipped on the lower guide over the chain. Had to remove the upper pin and bend the guide to get it on. Then rethread the pin and tighten.

Don't forget new E clips on the pins... I found and old one in my oil pan.

Re: 85 euro m635csi & m88/3 timing chain - my project

This is some stellar work and possibly even better documentation. Thank you very much! Sounds like I need to find a machinist for the lower chain tensioner. Do you know how the guy determined how much to remove? Did he measure the old one and match it or just use the pin as the guideline? Could you...
