Re: Front caliper clearance too small after rebuild

Hi,
I'm in the process of sourcing a replacement caliper.
Am I correct in saying that the E28 has the same front brakes?

Re: Front caliper clearance too small after rebuild

Hi Don, Yeah, it certainly seems to be the case. I suppose the previous owner may have replaced the caliper which worked with the part worn pads at the time. The problem caliper is marked with the no. 98. I can't see any markings on the other caliper although that may be a result of the de-rusting a...

Front caliper clearance too small after rebuild

Hi - I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on front brake caliper sizes. The latest stage of restoration of my '83 635 has been refitting the front brake calipers after cleaning, painting and rebuilding. I had noticed that one of the calipers, although very similar, looked a little les...

Re: Locked out and doors not working

Well thanks a million Ken - that trick worked a treat. I was having no joy at the drivers door but had the passenger one open in less than a minute - scary! The drivers door still wouldn't open from the inside and I had to remove the inner door panel and get to the mechanism http://bigcoupe.com/phpB...

Locked out and doors not working

So I've managed to lock myself out of my car ('83 635) and the drivers door won't open with the key. This is a real pain because I only have one key which has only ever worked with the drivers door and ignition, and not with the passenger door or trunk - not sure why but that's the key situation I i...

Re: Thermostat o ring position

Yeah, I'll go as planned per the diagram. From my measurements that would appear to give both setups (old ts - old housing : new ts - new housing) the same gap from the ts end to the internal standpipe in the housing.
Cheers.

Re: electric window motor?

Hi Utern, Apologies for not replying sooner... for some reason my notifications were switched off - there's a good chance you've sorted this out at this stage, but for what its worth, here's the photos again in a .pdf. I definitely didn't have to use a puller to get the exterior gear off - pretty su...

Re: Thermostat o ring position

Thanks Don - I'll try post the photos again here - from a computer and not a phone this time! 20161022_135003.jpg 20161022_134934.jpg I'm changing from the old type (left in your photo) to the new type (right in your photo) and although manual drawings show the o ring on the cap side, I've read else...

Thermostat o ring position

Hi, Could someone please confirm that this is the correct position for the thermostat o ring? Background: I've had to replace the old thermostat housing due to corrosion which has meant the later "A" type housing and corresponding thermostat. I know from previous posts that the o ring goes...

Well problem solved without having to source a replacment motor / gearbox - thanks again Brucey for the brilliant write up - I've included a few photos here as I ended up dismantling further. After removing the motor, it was soon obvious that the gearbox was the issue. I opened the gearbox and it wa...

OK ? I got the chance to remove the motor yesterday which went very smoothly thanks to Brucey?s write up . The emergency octagon piece was indeed stripped ? someone previous must have forced it without disengaging the slip clutch fully. The slip clutch is working fine allowing the gearbox spur gear ...

Well the glass definitely does not want to budge if I just grab and pull/push either. I think it's probably time to remove motor and see whats going on. Thanks all for your advice and I'll let you know how I get on.

I have the opposite problem to nsxguy7 whereby I can't engage the emergency octagon piece for manually operating the window on the passenger side. I want to do this to check the mechanism before embarking on removing the motor as the window is not working - there is voltage reaching the motor and I ...

Hi Folks, I'm trying to tackle rear power windows which aren't working and have discovered, as mentioned by Brucey above, that the lifting channel under the glass is almost completely rusted away on both rear windows. Has anybody replaced these? I'd assume there's a high risk of the window shatterin...
