Re: 633CSi Turbo - Not a Callaway Anymore

Tom, Your 633 took a hit in the worst possible way. Really hard to come back from that. Glad you both are okay, especially with the truck and all. I think you'll find that E28 will make a fine track car. My brother has a 533 and swears by the handling. Plenty of parts for these as well. Best of luck...

Re: 1982 CSi Resto

Thanks, I'll find the answer on here and get hold of a paper clip Looking in my notes for my '84 Euro with 15 pin diagnostic connector.. Short pins #1 and 7 for service lights with the key on. Duration 4 to 5 seconds to reset the oil interval and 11 to 12 seconds for the service interval. Also, sho...

Parting Out

I hope you don't part it out! [-o< I'm kind of up in the air about parting it out. It's a good dry, rust free car but it needs everything, full suspension, steering and brakes for starters. I will definitely pull the 3.25 LSD differential out of it for the 84 Euro car and may need the 5-speed bits ...

530 Drive Shaft

Thanks for the congrats, 31 years is enough. Driveshaft done on the 530. The rear CV boot was torn which I could have replaced myself but because it had at least 170k miles on it I decided to just replace the whole thing. Beyerdriveline.com specializes in BMW drive shafts (not Beyer Motor Works, my ...

Re: Spasso's Turbo Shark #0610023

Got the house paid off last July and retired on March 1st of this year. I'll be doing some work on the shop to make it more usable and then move on to some other projects, 1) Cleanup and repaint of 72 Chev 1-ton flat bed dump to sell. 2) Replace head gasket on the turbo car to correct oil leak betwe...

Deal of a lifetime indeed.
Euro spec E28 based 635's are hard to come by in any shape, much less in good shape.
Pictures please.

Thrust arms and lower control arms replaced.

Re: Old faithful.. my UK daily

This car has a soul, so much so that this car has been classified as being 'haunted'... by me. That's the only word I can use to describe it's antics. It gets angry if I don't use it very much, it gets angry if I fix something and it gets very upset when I try and subject it to any form of care. .....

Re: Spasso's Turbo Shark #0610023

I just did thrust arms on the E39 540i. The sleeve came out with the knuckle finally after lots of pounding. I didn't think I would get it out but finally I did. Then separated the two on the bench and after reassembly it drives awesome! Did the driveshaft this weekend. A remanufactured/rebuildable...

Plan 'C'

Plan 'C'.
The Shop is on hold for now.
I am in the process of paying off the house year.
With that out of the way I'll have more money to play with on other projects.
Plus I have to do the driveline and thrust arms on the 530.
So much for making plans...

Tom,
Just out of curiosity, did you do a compression check on your old engine before you took it out?

Re: Spasso's '84 Euro 635, #8183039

I installed one of these. http://www.burgertuning.com/BMW_335_oil_catch_can.html I have mine on the opposite side, roughly where the windscreen washer bottle would normally sit. Have to drain between oil changes, and get the same coloured crap - almost like the coffee crema, so thinking of enlargin...

I have been driving my 84 to work daily the last few weeks and have grown to really appreciate these M30's in Euro trim.

Wow I am really surprised that its not more oily stuff. I had assumed ( wrong) that the can was to catch oily blowby type fumes that was oily black crap. Like all the crap that was inside my throttle body before I cleaned it. Definitely looks like something you don't want going back through the int...

Re: Spasso's '84 Euro 635, #8183039

I'm with Gaz, should not these catch cans pickup from the head and place captured oil down at sump level? These appear to be filters rather than catch cans. I'm amazed at all the water and suds you get in your catch/filter cans. Yes, it is a filter/catch can combination. It picks up from the head, ...

Re: Spasso's '84 Euro 635, #8183039

Just did an oil change today. Came out semi-translucent. 1500 miles in cooler winter driving. (freeway) According to the dipstick I had 6 ounces in the cup. Nearly all water with a film of yellow oil scum on top. - Somebody told me long ago that for every gallon of gas you burn, the engine ingests a...

Re: Spasso's Turbo Shark #0610023

Pretty much all work on all cars is on hold. The plan for this year is to complete the wiring, insulate and finish out the inside of my shop. I'll probably do some minor upgrades to the Euro but that's about it. My brother just bought an 84 633 with a rebuilt B35 in it so I will be helping him get t...

Re: 1979 Euro 635csi

I just talked to my brother about head gasket bore size accuracies and relation to the bore sizes on the engine blocks. He says generally the diameters of the head gasket bores are larger than the engine block diameters, up to a .020 or .030 inch to allow for over boring the of the cylinders, if and...

Re: 1979 Euro 635csi

Your comments about sludge is concerning. If you can, try to flush all the oil passages you can before reassembly. Make sure your spray bar isn't plugged. On first start up I would run the engine just long enough to break the cam in , about 20 or 30 minutes and immediately drain the oil. Drain it ag...

Re: 1979 Euro 635csi

I think you are on the right track ordering the head gasket strictly by part number and I would recommend that you ignore the references(1977 - 1989.) A lot of people don't even know that an M90 engine exists and that's probably why they list the coverage the way they do. If you go to the Engine sec...
