a/c fan speed resistor on E12-based 635CSi
While on a trip this weekend, the blower fan for the a/c in my '79 Euro 635CSi (E12-based), which had been happily working on all speeds, began working only on high. The heater blower still works on variable speeds. Am I correct that the resistor pack that controls the a/c blower fan speed is inside...

Re: M90 Engine Or Not?
To close this out FOR REAL, I sent the engine # to BMW archive, and they were kind enough to send me the following: "Dear Mr Siegel, Thank you for your email. The engine No. 41993529 belongs to a BMW 635CSi US-version built in October 1984. We hope this is helpful for you. Yours sincerely, Andr...

Re: M90 Engine Or Not?
To close this out, I just pulled the valve cover to check how the cam drives the distributor, and what I see is that there's a slotted camshaft adapter nut, part number 11311284801, on the front. This is the OEM part that allows a Motronic head to be back-converted to run with a conventional distrib...

Re: M90 Engine Or Not?
Yes, this is that car. I'm considering selling it, and want to get the story as straight as possible so I can say definitively what engine is in it. I read on here and on the E9 forum that the M90 L-Jetronic intake plenums should be held in place with A-shaped brackets, and these aren't; they're bol...

M90 Engine Or Not?
I hate to be yet another "does my car have an M90 engine?" poster, but I can't figure this out. The car is a '79 Euro 635CSi, VIN 5546816 with 218,000 miles on it. It lost its dogleg close-ratio gearbox sometime in the past, and looks like it had been crashed, and doesn't have the tread-pe...

My New Air Conditioning Book is Now Available on Amazon
Hey, fellow shark people, sorry that I'm not on here a lot. I'm grateful to PTFunk for cross-posting my shark-related articles here. Many of you know that I recently did a from-scratch retrofit of a/c into my '79 Euro 635CSi. So I wanted to let you know that my new book, "Just Needs a Recharge:...

Driveshaft won't reach diff after diff swap
I just swapped the 3.07 diff out of my Euro '79. The car no longer has its close-ratio dogleg gearbox; it has a standard Getrag 265 overdrive box. The combination of the OD and the 3.07 gave me about 2800 rpm at 80 mph on the highway, but to the detriment of acceleration. I had a 3.45 sideloader fro...

Re: Wiring diagram for a/c and aux cooling fan for Euro '79
Hey, closely related question: On the non-air conditioned wiring harness that runs down the right side of the engine compartment, the one that wires the temperature switch at the bottom of the radiator, it has a black wire with a male spade connector in one of those rectangular plastic housings that...

Wiring diagram for a/c and aux cooling fan for Euro '79
Hey, folks. As some of you may know from the multi-part series I've been posting on Roundel Online, I've been retrofitting a/c into my '79 Euro. The fellow from whom I bought the evaporator assembly included the relevant portion of the wiring harness. I figured out where it connects to the climate c...

Re: Photo / Measurement of Where Hard A/C Lines Go Through the Firewall?
Bumping this, and asking... is the hard line placement the same on an E12-based car as it is on an E28-based car? I see where the hard a/c lines come through the firewall on my '85 635CSi. Can I just take a set of measurements from inside the car, say relative to the glovebox screw holes, and apply ...

Photo / Measurement of Where Hard A/C Lines Go Through the Firewall?
On a closely-related matter to my other a/c post, could someone post a photo and a set of measurements for where the hard a/c lines go through the firewall on an E12-based car? I'm doing a from-scratch a/c retrofit and need to punch the holes in the right place.
Thanks.

Re: Biggest Condenser That'll Fit?
Dwcains, thanks for that. I think you're right about the 19" width. I very carefully measured the space in the nose for the condenser (this is a '79 E12-based car), and it's 24" wide, except where it bulges in near the top, making it 23.5". I then carefully measured the 16x22 condense...

Biggest Condenser That'll Fit?
Hey Sharksters. I'm starting the process of retrofitting a/c into my Euro '79. Two questions: 1) What's the largest parallel flow condenser that'll fit? A search shows up a single post that references 16x22, but it's not definitive. 2) Any consensus on R12 versus R134a? I did a from-scratch retrofit...

Re: Stumble Coming Off the Clutch Onto the Gas
I read this thread (http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26523&p=190234&hilit=hesitation#p190234) about setting the throttle opening and making sure that it was in sync with the switch on the throttle position sensor. I couldn't see anywhere on this car (an '88) to set the thro...

Stumble Coming Off the Clutch Onto the Gas
I'm helping my friend Tom sell his 1988 635CSi 5-speed. The car is exhibiting this odd problem of hesitating stumbling when you come off the clutch and onto the gas from a dead stop. It idles perfectly fine, and it drives and revs up perfectly fine, and it doesn't stall when it does this hesitation ...

1988 635CSi Factory 5-Speed M6 Seats Boston MA $8500
Hey, folks, I am helping my friend Tom sell his 1988 BMW 635CSi. It is beyond unicorn-rare, as it has the world bumpers, the 208 hp M30B35 engine, a factory 5-speed, a factory limited slip, and M6 sport seats. Oh, and pretty BBS RC090 wheels with polished lips. The eBay auction is at the link below....

Going to Sharkfest with my '79 Euro
Hi folks. I've posted very little to this forum because, well, 13 cars to care for, articles to write, and for a while the car was in storage. But I'm about to drive my '79 Euro 2000 miles round trip to Southeast Sharkfest. I bought it a couple of years ago. It's this car: http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2...

don't know shipping to Sweden
Sorry, don't know. To even estimate it I'd need to box and measure and weigh the fender. I have the original box for the fender, but it's old. I was planning on double-boxing it. I'd need to do that, then measure and weigh it. So far, no bids on the auction, so I'm avoiding going through the work un...
