Re: 1985 635CSi For Sale in Ontario, Canada

It’s a great car and I think you negotiate with people and bring price down a few grand you will get it sold in no time. It’s the mileage that unfortunately kills the price. Yes, the car looks better than most cars do at a lot fewer miles and it runs strong. People get hung up on mileage rather tha...

Re: 1985 635CSi For Sale in Ontario, Canada

Thanks, yes I am getting lots of bites but this Covid lockdown for a month is going to stall any interest other than picture collectors unless I get a local buyer. I live in pickup country so not much interest in Euro cars up here? I will amend the ad to explain the speedometer swap from MPH to KPH ...

1985 635CSi For Sale in Ontario, Canada

Attatches is a link to my ad offering my 1985 635CSi for sale in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. I am getting a few quiries but no one has come to see the car. I think that given the current market I have the car priced about right but perhaps too high at $15000CND or about $12000USD. It has quite a f...

Re: Front end shake at 45mph E24 M6

Have you thought of leaving the car on jackstands to take the weight of the tires? I had my e21 in storage for a year due to a job transfer and luckily no serious flat spots but the parkbrake had been set and it froze/rusted to the drum. I have but I have also heard that it is not a good idea as th...

Re: Front end shake at 45mph E24 M6

I have been dealing with this same problem for several years. When I first bought the car I installed new Michelin tires and replaced the upper thrust arm bushings and followed the Bentley pre load instructions. The shake began after the first winter storage at about 100km. The car sits for 6 months ...

Re: UK asking prices for "restoration projects...................."

Where I live in northern Ontario I put my sweet running, rust free example in an online ad service for $10000 which is about £5500 and got one offer of $7000. I declined. Maybe it would be worth putting it for sale in the UK but shipping would be add considerable cost although it is being done.

Re: How snug should the shifter rod joint be?

Ralph, Many thanks for the explanation and pictures. Maybe this belongs in the Tech Articles forum? The car is put away dor the winter but I will be sourcing the parts and get prepared for this job in the spring which in these parts is likley May. I just need a way to get the car higher than on jack...

I dibn't know that any 635CSi's were "built" in the US. My June 1985 example came out of the US. Could it have been assembled in the US also? How would anyone find that out?

MTC Parts

While searching to buy parts to refresh the manual shifter on my 1985 635CSi I see that some of the online suppliers offer the shift rod joint for something like $16 while the OEM part is about $80. I generally stay clear of the Uro parts and try to stick with OEM suppliers like Bosch or Sachs etc. ...

Re: How snug should the shifter rod joint be?

Thanks, getting the car high is a problem for me. I would like to do a complete overhaul. The looseness is probably the issue. I have replaced the trans mounts and it has a UUC shortshift but not installed by me but by a previous owner. To get at that rod joint is going to be tough!

How snug should the shifter rod joint be?

Well I got the car up on jack stands high enough to get under and have a look at the shifter mechanism. The rod on the shifer shaft has a bit of play as does the rod joint. They both flex on their shafts about 1/16" play. I definitely think this may be the reason for the occasionally hard to ge...

Re: Shifter Rod Joint Replacement

Ralph, Thank you very much for the photo and advice . The Bentley suggests that the exhaust and driveshaft have to be removed and that's why I asked, it seem to be a big job if that was the case. Much appreciated.Once I get it removed I will be able to determine the exact part I need.
