Re: Crank no start, then loud bang!

Hi guys, finally the issue has been SOLVED :D , I waited for a few months just to be sure the issue was really solved. In the end it was the dizzy cap , despite getting a new Bosch one just 6 years ago, humidity kept forming under the cap preventing proper contact with the rotor. Each time we cleane...

head rebuild questions

Hi to all! I’m beginning to think about head rebuild, chain replacement etc.. Considering I’m pretty unprepared on the mechanical stuff here are a few questions if I may: 1) At what mileage one should rebuild the head/replace the chain? 2) Should one go for a preventive rebuild once reached a certai...

Re: Crank no start, then loud bang!

thanks for your kind input mark89euro645 :D , as a matter of fact I replaced with oem new ones both the position and the speed sensors around 5 years ago along with the fuel pressure regulator, while the fuel pumps are about 10 years old (when I got the car), but will get them all checked, the ECU i...

Crank no start, then loud bang!

Hi to all :D , as the title suggests I have an intermittent crank-no start issue, but it only happens when both these 2 conditions are in place, otherwise it always starts with no problem. 1) car hasn’t been used for around 2 weeks …and 2) after no use for 2 weeks, car starts ok, brief 10 minutes ri...

Re: Bosch Idle Control Valve discontinued, any valid alternatives?

I'm afraid I have very little idea what it is about these units that cause them not perform correctly, other perhaps than a suggestion I recall from years back saying it was a good idea to flush them through from time to time to remove any build up of dirt etc internally. The same units were fitted...

Re: Bosch Idle Control Valve discontinued, any valid alternatives?

jps635 thanks for the suggestion, wow that's pretty expensive  As a matter of fact my original (32 years old) Bosch ICV is still working fine, I just want to get myself a replacement in case it fails in the future…. Have you dismissed the idea of buying secondhand? Thanks plip1953 as a matte...

Bosch Idle Control Valve discontinued, any valid alternatives?

Hi to all :D, as you all know the original Bosch ICV has been discontinued in 2013... Bosch original: 0280140509 BMW: 13411286065 The only ones I've seen available are cheap alternatives that range between $30 and $60, bought two of them and both malfunctioned with idle rpm never settling below 1500...

Re: ABS sensors - a recap?

for front sensors I am getting 34521178981 and 34521178982 (different wire lengths each side I think?) which is not the same as the number you quoted. The date ranges are cobblers; only post 5/82 models were fitted with ABS I think, yet the date range is shown as going back to 1977. 34 52 1 155 709...

ABS sensors - a recap?

Hi to all! :D as the title suggests I'd like to replace all four ABS sensors for my 9/86 653CSi After a long search through the posts I gather these should be the correct serials to look for, this is a copy and paste recap of the whole thing and I'd be very grateful if anyone could be so kind of let...

Dear bpoliakoff thanks for your answer :D , yeah the weight is about that heavy, I guess you're right, I think I'll just bite the bullet and replace the springs! Rear left suspension sag problem

Hi to all :D , I hope you can find a minute to share your view on this sagging issue I have. 7 years ago I installed new Bilstein B4 shocks and bump stops on all 4 corners (I like the stock ride), after installing the LPG (5 years ago) I noticed a 2cm sag on the rear left (where the LPG tank sits in...

Re: power steering intermittently stiff

Hi maestro84! My issue with the intermittent stiffness of the steering (back in 2015) was fixed by replacing the seal between the steering column and the steering box, and by replacing the low pressure hose of the power steering, hope this might be useful info for you :-)
good luck :-)

Re: Steering slightly sticks to left or right after full turn

Hi tschultz! thanks for your feedback, one of the steering box's mounts had cracked a while ago and I got it fixed, so the issue must be caused by something else... Have any clue? thanks again :-)

Steering slightly sticks to left or right after full turn

Hi guys, thought I should do a separate post for this rather than inserting it in an older post regarding another steering issue.. My 6 has developed a new steering problem. After making a full steer to the left or to the right the car stays slightly steered in either direction :-k, then it evens up...

Re: thump/pop sound when steering

Hi guys, here I am again , after re-welding the bracket the thump sound while steering has been successfully healed. However another issue has arisen which had actually started while the thumping sound had initially showed up but I didn't heed it too much since I was focusing on the thump n...

Re: thump/pop sound when steering

thanks for you advice 87shark, as a matter of fact I have a very "cautious" driving stile 8-[ so I guess I'll stick with the "normal" bracket for the moment, but will definitely consider ordering one when the next order to Ed will be done!
Btw really appreciate your advice.. :-)

GRNSHRK and tschultz thanks for your advice :D , finally managed to get the bracket welded and all is ok again! Re: thump/pop sound when steering

thanks Brucey! :D Just went to my mech this morning and had a look underneath, and yes, the bracket of the steering box had unwelded itself from the beam below, will get it re-welded and report the results.
Thanks again!

thump/pop sound when steering

Actually not Pod, the kit was still quite new, have been using it only for two years, I guess it had either been faulty or badly installed, the surface of the plate was pretty obviously unevenly worn  ...

Re: Vibration at 60 and 120 Km/h (38 and 75mph)

Diagnosis from such noises is notoriously tricky, but not quite completely pointless trying I suppose. The whining noise sounds to me like a noisy diff (or gearbox if it is further forwards) but it could also be a failing centre bearing. BTW if the rear subframe is making hard contact (i.e. not via...
