Brake / Clutch master cylinder .

Working on brakes on my series one car . The brake master cylinder reservoir had a sealed port that I have opened up and used for the clutch master cylinder feed after my recent manual conversion. This is it prior to being opened and connected . 018 - Copy.JPG Real OEM shows the port here . diag_3fv...

Re: Series One brake master cylinder .

Apologies for the delay in responding . sifan . That's a LHD 23.8 MC whereas mine is a 22.2 RHD item . Apart from the diameter the ports are in a different orientation. I've removed the MC inspected it and it seems to be score or pitting free . Problem /failure seems to have been surface rust on the...

Series One brake master cylinder .

Woke the car up after winter hibernation and found the brake reservoir almost empty . It's weeping out of the rear of the brake master cylinder and has been slowly draining over the six months since last used . I rebuilt the MC ten years ago and have ordered a couple of rebuild kits from DE and Lith...

Here's what I did a while back https://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=162070&hilit=mudflaps#p162070 Mock them up in cardboard to get the shape/ style you want The other thing to do is cover the fender lips and lower panels below the trim line with clear 3M film. A lot of Porsche guys do th...

Re: Welding

I echo what Nick says except I sprayed it into the sills, box sections and closed cavities throughout the car . I thinned the wax mixture with bar and chain oil which gives excellent creep qualities and did it on a warm day . You really have to get it to creep down into the sandwiched pinch welded s...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Drove it . It's been a long torturous summer . Long story short the gearbox we fitted would not go through the gate into reverse . Rob and Ron have been fantastic in helping me resolve it and we got there in the end ,albeit after 5 months . Full story will be in my project thread but with a new full...

Re: Series One power windows.

Sorry ,I should have worded my question better . My windows operate with key out of ignition , door open /closed . I never really noticed it before and it seemed odd . I've spent a "happy " hour  with magnifying glass and rule tracing out the wiring diagram and confirmed that it is i...

Re: Rusty sills (rockers)

I'd say that , done properly by a "caring " garage , £1K per side inc. textured finish and paint would not be unreasonable. I know how long it took me to properly rebuild both sides of mine . Many people lambast Waxoyl but after decades of use I have confidence in it's attributes so it's p...

Re: Rusty sills (rockers)

" How long is a piece of string ..." You don't say what area of the sill is rotten but replacing the sills on an E24 is an impossible task to quantify . If you have visible and easily identifiable rot on the external outer sill the inner and central membrane will almost certainly be compro...

All parts arrived , slowly ....but I managed to rebuild the prop with new parts and fit up and bleed the clutch system. Wiring up the reversing lights had me scratching my head as I had checked the switch some time ago and it was OK . After double checking everything I realised that the switch itsel...

Re: " Auric " the odyssey ........

Well it's been a long hiatus on work done to the car due to life changes . I hadn't even driven it for a year and had it not been for the weekly chats with Ron and Rob ( wattsmonkey) from this parish I'm not sure if I'd have got around to continuing with plans for it. Both these guys kept my interes...

Does the pump not have a NRV inside it ?
Immediate 40psi when cranking may not necessarily mean you have 40psi of fuel.

Re: Wood steering wheels.

I still have the perfect condition original series one wheel as yours and have refitted it numerous times over the years to see if I wanted to go back but immediately found it completely removed the light and airy "feel" of the cabin that the wood rim gives.
Good luck with your choice .

Re: Wood steering wheels.

380mm dia is the optimum diameter , aesthetically and for pleasure of use. Genuine Nardi / Petri are a beautiful wheel being slim rimmed ,very tactile and just lovely to look at . Many of the others , inc Momo , have a smaller diameter and thicker rim and just don't look right in our era of cars . I...

Re: Bell housing and Getrag mounted separately

I have a manual conversion for my car that has a split bellhousing 265/6 gearbox. I recently spoke to Rob (wattsmonkey) on this very question and he confirmed my same thoughts in that it was perfectly doable to mount the flywheel/clutch properly with a good alignment tool and then attach the bellhou...
