Re: how many 635's have you encounter? (Encountered)

Unbelievably, I caught a glimpse of a black E24 in Lima, Peru 15th Oct. I was so slack jawed as it drove past, I couldn't take a photo of it. It did look in good nick though so was obviously cherished, and a very cool car to have in S. America. Maybe the owner might be a subscriber?

Re: electrical issue - could my fusebox be toast?

As a start, I would pull the main plug from the fuse box and check the connections are good. I had a loose 12v pin to the coil here which gave the same symptoms as you describe (thick green wire). I would also spray as many contacts as you can with contact cleaner and clean all spade connectors and ...

Deutsch Tech, Milton Keynes UK - Positive

I have been looking for local competent mechanics to do some work on my M635 for a while. Deutsch Tech were recommended to me as a group of BMW enthusiasts, and so I asked them to fit a new clutch, which they (Fabian) did. Their work was clean, comprehensive and at reasonable rates. They advised cha...

In-tank fuel pump story

I needed to find an in-tank fuel pump last week to get my M635 through the MOT. New ones seem either very scarce and/or very pricey, if you can find one. There don't seem to be many new ones around in the UK. Having contacted some e24/e28 breakers who had sold out of second hand ones, I was told tha...

Re: M635 cutting out

Hi Nick My M635 does get laid up regularly and sometimes for long periods. I have learnt over the years that, after disconnecting the battery, it is prudent to spray as many engine management system electrical plugs and sockets with contact cleaner as you can reasonably access before taking the car ...

Re: Spotted - UK RHD M635CSi in Malaysia

Hi all, Just getting back into things M635 related after 18 months off (travelling, grandchild, decorating, garden, wife etc.). I have this indeed as an Alpine white car that used to belong to 'ian M635uk', a regular contributor on here I recall, based in Stoke. This car was first registered 1st Aug...

Re: Greetings from a new Guy- and HELP!

Hi Motolust, and welcome to the madness. Unfortunately the link to your photos is not working. On the face of it, from what you have described, it sounds like it could be a good buy. However, be aware that the cost of getting this back in running order could be high - to very high. I understand that...

Re: Evaluating the M635CSi for purchase

You are correct in that the build sheets for M635s and M6s both list the Engine type as S38. To check what engine is fitted use a mirror to look at the head, under the cooling pipe, at the front of the engine. Look for M88/3 in the casting as per this photo:

Re: Evaluating the M635CSi for purchase

I think the first thing I would do is look up the original build sheet from the chassis number to determine how and when this car started life, and what it would take to put it back to that original condition.

Re: Evaluating the M635CSi for purchase

Interesting engine rocker cover. Having Google'd BMW Rocker Covers, esp. E24's, I cannot find another picture that looks like the one fitted to this engine. Clearly it fits the head but just looks odd, esp. with the plug wires located at the top and strange position of the oil filler cap.

Head looks badly damaged with a valve poking out and matching mashed piston in the block. All which suggests timing chain failure.

Re: M635 exhaust pieces

The early original M635 exhaust systems had the front and back boxes welded together as stock with a sleeve which became NLA. Both the original systems fitted to my car had the welded sleeves. Here are some pictures of my last original system (I now have a Supersprint system fitted). There is a syst...

M3/M635 Telescopic Plug Spanners

It appears that the Telescopic plug spanners for the M88 engine are now being remanufactured by BMW. Part no. is 7111 2225 101. These are now showing as $53.29 in RealOEM. These have started appearing on EBay at super inflated prices. There is one minor difference from the original that I have notic...
