Re: LHD Wing Mirrors for RHD Car
The mirrors will physically interchange without issues but the mirror glass is different. The LHD and RHD glass distorts the reflections differently depending on side and market.

Re: DME/ECU
I thought the 86 had the 059 DME and was the one with either 24 or 28 pin chips. The 079 came later and was only available with 28 pin. The best way to tell is to open the unit and do an actual inspection. You will ultimately have to open it install the chip when it is received and it is best to ver...

Re: My second 6er: steal of a deal
It is all looking good. Many of the cars had the tail panel between the lights painted low gloss black so that could be an option to clean up that panel. What are you going to do with the m badges? I have a m car project that I am working on that needs badge help. I also have some of the other embl...

Re: M6 Leather Dash Restoration Advice
Back to the catch tray vs no catch tray: the factory leather dashes had this filled in before they covered with leather.
Would still love to see an option less expensive than Just Dashes as you still have shipping cost on top of that.

Re: Tools Needed for Toolkit - UPDATE ALL SET NOW
Tool kits for the e9 are a little different. The e9 had the red handle screwdrivers and additional pieces such as spark plug, plug boot, points and condenser. May have been a few other that I am forgetting. I do have most of the tools including the dark blue rags that would have been found in some o...

Re: Considering my *next* shark
I agree about the rust issues if you plan to restore the car but: for $2100 this could be a lot of car. It looks good in the pictures and the interior is nice for the age. Cracks in the dash arte expected and wear on the leather is not uncommon. Have the mechanicals checked over and look for structu...

To that extent, I have a Getrag 265 with shifter and prop shaft removed and cleaned ready to install. This is the superior/stronger box over the 260. This was originally going to be for my E9 but came to realize that I needed a mechanical speedo drive output. Hence I am selling. Reach out if it int...

Re: Motronic Bellhousing Relevance to Engine Management
The cars that came with the early motronic injection (82-mid 87) used the speed and reference sensors that mounted in ports in the bellhousing. The later cars used a crank sensor mounted to the flywheel.

I don't know where you are but none of the North American models came with the close ratio/sport/dogleg trans. But for the other markets it was available throughout the run except for the very first model years.

Re: Gauge Cluster Compatibility
The most common failure with the clusters is the SI board failure. If the batteries have leaked they can damage other functions on the cluster. I would suggest replacing the SI board with on of the new battery-less type and clean your ground for the temp and fuel gauge. I have several clusters for t...

You may try removing the passenger seat so you can remove the lower door panel without breaking the forward catch on the panel. Then you can proceed to remove the upper panel to gain access the door mechanisms.

My first experience with the VW pistons was back in the mid 80's when I preformed engine work on my e24. I had the cylinder head worked by Pete McHenry in Winston-Salem NC. At this time he explained to me how the VW diesel pistons could be used and with his help we built my first BMW performance mot...

Most tire manufactures do not recommend that tire size on a 8" wheel. But most manufactures do not recommend that tires be stretched. Your car: your call

If I remember correctly the e12 chassis cars had a couple of different bearing sets depending on year so make sure you get the correct ones for your application.

Re: Large puddle of ATF
First make sure you are using the correct procedure to fill the system. The pressure should be purged from the system before you check the level in the reservoir. If you just remove the cover and add fluid it will be over filled. If you have filled properly and still have a leak: check the grub scre...
