Re: S2 seats compatibility in S1?

Thanks - I'm getting similar info on an E24 FB group. I don't think they'd go on my '79. Was asking because there's a beautiful pair of manual sports from an M6 for sale. Oh well . . . :(

Two manuals I referenced for this said to use a jack to compress the suspension.

On my '79 I bugrd the threads on both ends and the boot on one. Ordered new from the dealer. They still come with the castellated nuts. Can you actually replace the boot alone?

We put them as tight as we could with a 150 lb manual torque wrench. It's still on the lift. I'm gonna dig deeper into the online manual to try and get it.

Thanks Ken. That's what I hear from FirstFives too, and that the hex bolts should be 43-48. Sound right to you?

Torque values source - and a question

The malloc.nl server that carried the online version of the DVD version of the BMW shop manuals seems to be dead. I have found another location for them here: https://www.bmwtechinfo.com/repair/main/057en/index.htm (I'm E12-based '79 so I'm using the E12 sections. Not sure about what's there for E28...

Just did this last weekend without special tools, but with two sets of hands. First side: Removal - did the first side with a 6" carriage bolt and nut, the big washers from the strut, and a few short lengths of copper pipe with an ID just right to sit over the frame and allow the bushing throug...

Hey I just hit on your amazing thread while trolling for differential mount info. Your Euro '83 - is it E12 base? Mine is (a '79). Your diff mount looks like the E12 type. I've read all about them breaking and mine doesn't seem like it has. However I'm doing all my bushings and I was just wondering ...

Yes - both sides. Almost identical wear on the tire and well on each side, as the pix show.

I think it may have happened. I just wasn't able to check right away - I was at work and my garage is not close to home. I do not know, but I suspect, that my rims are staggered. (My stupid ignorance that I don't know.) I was asking - if they are, and they were mounted front to back, could this caus...

Thanks Moe. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest just how stupid a thing may be causing this. Say *someone* had real Alpina 16s but didn't even know if they're staggered, and if they *were* staggered, and anyone who had put them on the car and didn't know - let's just say - If the wider ones we...

Thanks all - much to absorb here about suspension. However, closer inspection has revealed that in fact it's the tires rubbing on the wheel well, presumably when they're turned in. See the attached photos - shows wear on each front tire and corresponding wear on the wheel well. This is mystifying. I...

Thanks Greg. I've owned the car for 4 years and haven't replaced any bushings. Are you saying that if there is no play, then bushings should/could be good?

Front inside tire wear - toe?

'79 Euro 635 - suspension is stock, not lowered. I just got back from my mechanic who pointed out the extreme (!) wear on the inside of my fronts. Tires are Yokahama's on Alpina 16's, 3.5 years old, less than 30k km / 18k miles. He suspects camber wear. On researching a bit it looks at least as like...

OKAY.

Timing chain thread re-visit

1000 is for parts. It isn't miles that kill the plastic guide as much as time. The guide gets brittle and breaks and kills the valve train, FWIW, I've probably done more of these in the past 5 years than anyone in the country. Currently am doing an m635 chain conversion and am just finishing an e34...
