Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

That sounds like it would be worth a shot - I didn't know about heat proof tape and I guess it would be a good idea to try to find a shop again that does this work and throw them a few pieces to see what they can do with them before I get serious with the actual engine parts. Looks like "Kapton...

Re: WTB Foam Rear Spoiler

I have an early spoiler - like the one in the ebay listing - on a hennarot trunk lid that I don't have any plans for. Not sure about removing it from the trunk lid or shipping, but maybe we could work something out if you're still interested. It's off of a 1979 635Csi

WTB: One M90 Flat Top Piston Std. Size

WTB: Looking for one M90 Flat top piston for the standard bore which I believe is right at ~93mm. Pistons measured at ~92.68mm or thereabouts. Anyone have an M90 engine they've torn into, or had to go oversized with the pistons have any laying around?

Re: Where to Source "NLA" Euro Parts

Try http://www.schmiedmann.com/ They should be able to get hold of the parts that you want Their price for parts and shipping from Europe is usually very reasonable 2nd that on Schmiedmann. For parts that were intended for euro only models, Schmiedmann has been one of the only retail sources lately...

Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

I recently bought one of those vibrating polishers from Harbor Fright for doing small hardware and brackets, and it works pretty well. Some of the hardware comes out looking brand-new and doesn't need replating, but other pieces will almost immediately begin to look bad again as the plating has eit...

Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

Most of the hardware I get from BMW is zinc plated now. Every once in awhile you get a cad plated bolt, but you don't know until it arrives. Locally, they actually only do a yellow cad look plating, but I don't know what it is or how long to expect it to look nice. It would be nice to find somewhere...

Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

The motor in the 2nd pic is Bert's. I wish that was mine, I'd post pictures, but they may make you sick after seeing that. Are the raw aluminum parts powder coated? I've been looking at arrowplating.com to do my hardware because locally I've been having to media blast everything before taking it in...

Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

The m90 on the other hand, I could see evidence of where the crush washer from one of the banjo bolts on the oil bar may have been in the #2 cylinder and may have caused the hole in the piston. I don't believe there's any way for one of the banjo bolt crush washers to get from the top of the head i...

On Jay Leno's Garage, he did a small story on some kind of welding that might be applicable to your cracking problem. Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

This is my 81 M90 after rebuild. It was bored .015 and new 10:1 JE pistons installed. It was totally ported and port matched as well as having a 284 Schneider ground cam and an oversize throttle body. For right now, when I light it up, it will be running Motronic 1.0. If that doesn't handle it, I w...

Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

Was able to get the nut off the crankshaft with a $100 Harbor Freight 3/4" drive impact wrench. Found on another forum that someone had success with one after about a minute of working it. Even with a smallish 5 gallon compressor and undersized hose and couplings, it made easy work of what I'd ...

Re: An appeal for OEM Bilstein information

Pretty old thread, but both of the Bilsteins I removed from the rear of an 1985 535i were stamped with 47 0610 M03. They're yellow so I'm not sure if they're even OEM, but they're old and need recharged. Only one groove to clip in the lower spring support unlike most of the sport shocks. Probably HD...

Re: M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

So far, besides being pretty dirty inside the engine, I found a gap in the head gasket between 5 & 6 and a hole on one side of the #2 cylinder piston. This explains the zero compression on the three cylinders. Off to the machine shop by the end of the week. Having trouble with the nut on the fro...

M90 Engine Rebuild - Block Cleaning - Magnafluxing

Haven't been on here in awhile and have recently had two m10 engine blocks in to a machine shop for cleaning and magnafluxing recently. The first block, there was about 5 hairline cracks in between the threaded head bolt holes and the water jacket. I somewhat expected problems since I didn't know th...

It cycles right from the start. Also, if the evaporator were freezing up, wouldn't there be a lot of condensate after shutting it down and waiting awhile for it to melt off? I hadn't noticed anything of this nature either. I really don't think that there was any problem with them getting the refrige...

A/C Cycles On and Off Constantly While Driving

Is there a quick answer to what would cause the A/C to cycle off and on constantly while driving? Overpressure or temperature switch located somewhere? I had the car in a shop that specializes in AC repair (but not BMW's unfortunately) and my car spent at least 6 months there being converted to R-13...
