Re: 1988 635 CSi for sale on Hemming's
There’s that old saying, goes something like “When you buy a used car you’re buying the previous owners.” Never more true than when it comes to buying an E24. Get the wrong one and you have a true money pit on your hands.

Failure rate of ABS wheel sensors?
Pulled my E24 out of the garage a few weeks ago and the ABS light suddenly came on. Turned out the RF wheel sensor had failed. I've owned the car for 25+ years and this is the first time I've had a failure of any kind in the ABS system. I couldn't locate a replacement (all indications are they're ou...

Re: No Spark 85 635csi - TRIED EVERYTHING
I’ll reiterate Slownrusty’s suggestion about double-checking the ECU you tried swapping in. Early this year (the very day before I had knee replacement surgery) my E28 suddenly had the same symptoms you’re experiencing. No spark, no start. Over the course of several weeks I hobbled around with a can...

Re: Nice Euro 1984 BMW M635CSi for sale on BAT
It looked like a very nice car; it should have done better. Sadly in general E24s don't often do well on BaT, when compared to some other BMW models. But I don't know of a better place to sell one, at present. I might be facing a dilemma soon; I have an E28 and E24 which I've owned for many years an...

Re: Talk me out of this road trip.
Sorry to hear about your dad. The fact that he's still in good health is a big plus. I lost mine about 10 years ago when he was 87 but his health had been failing for awhile. I know a lot of enthusiasts take their older bimmers on extended road trips but personally I don't think it's a good idea. Th...

Besides the mentioned electrical issues, better check to see if it has a nikasil or alusil engine before you buy. They’re nicely designed cars but have the potential to be a real money pit.

I for one would love to hear more about the oven reflow technique. Temperature? Time? Pre-roast preparation?

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
I’m scheduled to have knee surgery (my left one) on Monday and I probably won’t be able to drive the 6er for at least a month so I thought I’d take it out for a “last run”. The car is just so satisfying on the open road especially since the manual conversion with all new shifter hardware and the lig...

Re: What’s going on with Trump???
Another BMW forum I belong to has a thread named, literally, “Trump-bashing thread” along with other politically-themed threads. All they do is serve as confirmation bias for people who tend to think alike; they don’t change anybody’s minds. As Ken notes, they only divide people. Christ, we’ve got e...

Re: What’s going on with Trump???
Few Americans actually trust our media anymore. The mainstream media (and I include CNN in this) in the U.S has been very biased for decades; it's pretty clear to many of us that it’s become little more than a propaganda arm of the democratic party. The latest Gallup poll shows that Americans' trust...

Re: Wheels that I hope will fit
TimU - This is a great summary and I've used it before in doing some basic planning/sizing. One added complexity for those of us with 16" diameter wheels is there's virtually no availability of 235 width tires. The right 235r17 I can find all day long. And similar 225r16 has plenty of availabi...

Re: Wheels that I hope will fit
To my eyes, 17" is the ideal wheel size for an E24; mine are RS 198s (17 X 8.5, ET13) with 245/40 tires. Next time tires are due, I think I'll switch to a slightly less aggressive, more "typical" upgrade size of 235/45. I'd like a slightly larger sidewall for a better ride and to red...

Condolences to our friends in England
We in the U.S. offer our deepest condolences on the passing of your Queen Elizabeth II.
On a personal level, she was crowned one month before I was born, so I've known no other.

Re: Louvers?
I wouldn't do it. [-X I'm still haunted by the memories of cutting through the hood of my first car, a beautiful 1963 Impala SS, to install one of those fiberglass "teardrop" hood scoops that were popular back in the day. When I think of some of the things we did to our cars back then; hac...

I just changed the "engine crankshaft position sensor" (Item #7) on the front of the engine because I noticed the plastic connector on my original one was completely disintegrated from engine heat. It crumbled apart in my hands. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=5384-USA-01-198...

Re: Wanted: Dinan E24/ M6 Strut Brace
Yeeoow! I should have bought a strut brace along with the chip when I was visiting Dinan way back in 1999. Missed my chance; now they've evidently become quite collectible. Never saw that coming; indeed, time changes everything. Racing Dynamics strut braces are a good alternative and are still avail...

They sold for only $1500. That's a great deal assuming they were properly restored, assembled and trued. They looked really good.

Re: BBS RS 007s refinished to 16x7
Nice looking wheels. Never heard of that website but I've registered and will be watching. The value of RSs has really gone up. About 10 years ago I paid only $2200 for a set of restored RS198s (17 X 8 1/2, ET13) for my E24. About 5 years ago I bought a set of four RS061s (16 X 8, ET20) in pieces th...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Thanks to Rod Paine and his terrific website I discovered my 6er was missing a heat shield for the RH upper control arm bushing. Until I read through this page, I hadn't been aware such an item existed, but apparently the factory began installing them after a certain date: https://www.mye28.com/tech...

I bought a set of these for the front of my E28. I have about 5K miles on them and they've been great, no complaints. https://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brakes.jsp?autoMake=BMW&autoModel=535i&autoYear=1987&autoModClar=&make=StopTech&model=SportStop+Drilled+Rotor&group=Cross-Dril...
