Re: Headlight Help!
Hi Song, Just saw your post. Glad you've got it sorted - I had a similar problems couple of years ago. I think your headlight setup has a two filament low beam globe (one for dipped and one for high beam) and a high beam globe. As well as turning on the high beam the K3 relay switches out the dipped...

Diagnostic Connector pins
G'day I'm trying to diagnose a no crank problem and wanted to look up the pins on the diagnostic connector to force a crank. The VIN on my car says it is from 12/87 so I looked in the 88 ETM And I found this diagram Diag Connector (as per BMW).png But on my car the inner circle of connectors are clo...

Auxilliary Fan woes
G'day folks. Summer is coming to Qld and thought I'd address a non working aux fan issue. My situation is my std aux fan not working (no resistance through it all) but I have a replacement. About 10 years ago an auto electrician fixed an earlier aux fan problem by using an additional relay and takin...

Re: Heavy steering at parking speeds
Hi emac, As far as know - yes. I drove the car yesterday and it was all okay. I am told that the new PAS pump was generating enough pressure at idle and caused a valve in the regulator to not close off properly. Also, just a few more revs (up to about 1000) and everything is okay. Again, I am told t...

Re: Heavy steering at parking speeds
Hi emac Just spoke to the hydraulics guys and they say just a few revs makes it all okay. Seems like the PS pump isn’t giving enough pressure sometimes. So I’m thinking the “new” PS pump isn’t so good. No noises - we’ll just a bit at extreme lock. Also mounting fixed ages ago. Will certainly replace...

Re: Heavy steering at parking speeds
Thanks Phil. The video was a good intro to the operation of these boxes. Had a read of the thread you suggested - I've read it before but not the same. There is steering assistance at driving speeds - I guess 10-15 kmph or more. So, I'm not convinced there is a steering box problem yet - but I haven...

Re: Heavy steering at parking speeds
Thanks - I think that is a good idea - the filter needs to be looked at.
I don't think it has ever been replaced and I'm sure it needs to be more often than that

Heavy steering at parking speeds
Hi guys, Got a problem with the hydraulics. The basic issue is the steering is unbelievably heavy at parking speeds. Here's what has been done Power steering pump – replaced with new one. Power steering box – rebuilt. Brake booster – rebuilt. Accumulator – replaced with okay second hand part. Pressu...

Re: No Heater or AC fan
G'day folks. I've finally gotten back to this perennial problem... So, to the best of my reconning - fuses 19 & 20 are good - blower select relay is good - exactly same results when I use jumpers I strarted to run through the '87 ETM for Heating and AC - need to run tests G, H & J, G & I...

Re: Headlights gone dim
Hi baders, Yep replaced them - had a few new relays to try from. No difference. I found that the big voltage drop was between the fuse and the globe. Pulled the fuse/relay box out and saw that there was another connector under the fuse box. Negligible resistance from the fuse post to the female side...

Re: Headlights gone dim
Stopped working again almost immediately and I've now worked out where the problem is.
Big voltage drop between fuses 13/14 and the headlights - 5 1/2 volts - ouch.
I see there are some pages on lights in the mye28 forum - so I'll look for some upgrade ideas given I need to do something anyway.

Re: No Heater or AC fan
I sorta ruled out the AC switch initially because the blowers didn't work on max and this pretty much bypasses the AC switch (except for the blower selector relay needing input from it) I think I'll jumper the blower selector relay to check max operations of both fans without the AC switch. Take you...

Re: No Heater or AC fan
G'day Pod. I did understand the switching of blowers - but it always good to get another opinion so thanks for the reply. The AC switch is one of the common points - and where I was going after the blower selector relay. I thought the AC switch worked - I could hear the compressor clutch kick in and...

Headlights gone dim
G'day chaps. A few days ago I got in my car to come home about 6pm and no headlights. Well, so dim there might as well have been nothing! So, we get out the ETM for 87 models and page 6312-0 and -1 aren't correct for my car. I have a UK import with H1 bulbs - I guess the ETM is for US sealed beam ve...

No Heater or AC fan
G'day - need a bit of help. It's 35C here in Brisbane and there is no AC fan at all (or heater fan either) - at any setting, max too. AC light comes on when the button pressed. No fuses gone - I've seen that Brucey says don't necessarily believe the documentation for fuses on RHD cars - so check the...

Re: Tired of lowered car
Thanks for your views. I'll see how the high the 662s make the car and then make a call re the alternative springs. I guess the M635 springs is the 31 33 2 225 115 (I run about 32 points) and Mtech springs, the 31 33 2 225 646. I'll have a bit of a look around to see what I can find - they might be ...

Tired of lowered car
Hi guys, I'm after some suggestions. I'm sick and tired of my car being too low. I've got a 12/87 Highline imported into Aus from the UK. The PO put on some 17" style 42 knockoffs with 235/45s. It had ...662 front springs - so this makes it a Tropical Spec (whatever that meant for the UK). I go...

Front end shimmy
Here's my saga about this issue. Over the past 6-12 months I've battling the dreaded shimmy. My experience of this is typically under braking where the car makes an arbitrary decision on which way it wants to make a bit of a dive (not sure I really want my wife to drive it like this) but also pretty...

Re: B34 head on B35 block
Thanks Brucey. Nice point about the smaller ports - I'll have a good look at this first. I was aware of the multipart front end to the block and that the machining needed to be the same. I thought I read that I could use the B35 cam in the B34 head - this was my intention. My pistons have a crown on...

B34 head on B35 block
Hi guys, I've had a bit of trouble with a B35 cyclinder head - way too much machined off it Previous post: http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27686 and finding a replacement in Oz has been a real problem. So, I'm going to look at a B34 head on my B35 block. There seems to be a good b...

Re: Cylinder head woes
Thanks guys. I was told they could clearly see coolant coming out of the head gasket but your replies make me question it a tad. I'll talk to them again. A further question if I may. Once the head is off does that mean it needs to be machined before going on again? Regards. Dave PS baders, I'll cont...

Cylinder head woes
Hi guys. I have an 87 highline auto. It has recently developed a serious water leak at the back of the engine. My mechanic has said time for head off and new gasket etc. Now, the chap who does something to the head for them - I guess to make sure it is dead flat - has said that there is no more room...

G'day Buellrider. That's exactly what mine did for a while until they decided to go on holidays completely. The behaviour made me think I was the grease issue but in the end it was a faulty relay. I'm having a lot of trouble getting a replacement relay that has the intensive wash function. The relay...
