flaws of cheap M50 injectors
Doing some work on the other car and noticed the #6 injector was leaky, so I went looking for a replacement. I considered buying one, but went with a full set of 6 'refurbished' injectors for the M50 because why not. I don't know who manufactures these ones with the light blue plastic and yellow pin...

finally a dump of the 4-chip 633 motronic
Never saw a dump from these ECUs that use the four soldered ROM chips before. Now there is one. Not that it's terribly useful, but at least we can see the stock ignition maps I guess.

Re: e24 suspension components used on e30 for 5 lug swap
The e28 and e24 suspension parts are generally the same. Actually I can't think of a single thing that is different, except when you compare different years. Not too sure about the e30 5-lug swap, but I heard you can take the e24/e28 front hub and put it on the e30 spindle. That might be the only re...

Re: Differential questions
As you may know the e24 came in both 'e12-based' and later 'e28-based' varieties. '83 model year is in the 'e28-based' category so it can use a diff from an e28 5-series. In some cases the rear cover needs to be exchanged because of a different design used in some years. Generally a diff from a 6-cy...

Re: Bilstein shock bellows - how important?
Well, I've just seen what the price is for new shocks these days and suddenly I have a different perspective. I'll definitely be looking for some kind of replacement! Maybe I'll add a cover to the rear shocks too. (Need to finish rebuilding the exhaust first...)

Bilstein shock bellows - how important?
The plastic bellows protecting the front shocks are pretty well full of holes. (See pic:) http://www.hyakushiki.net/misc/bilstein.jpg Is it important for this type of shock to be sealed against water/debris getting in? Obviously there's a fair amount of labor involved in disassembling everything to ...

Re: Performance Chip/Modest Engine Mods for 83' 633 CSI
When I got the head resurfaced (shaved .010") and put in a B35 cam, the dyno showed +5 HP and +7 torque. Piston to valve clearance was fairly tight but it has been eight years and I haven't had a problem.

Re: Repetitive ECU break down
This sounds like an unusual problem. Any update? I am wondering if they already checked that the system voltage is not excessive and the waveform does not have excessive ripple. Since you mentioned crankshaft position sensors, I gather that the ignition is also controlled by the ECU on this model (i...

Re: E30 Harness on E24
Could it be an e30 Motronic 1.1/1.3 harness combined with an M30B35 ecu from an e34? It's been a while but I recall that it was possible to mix and match some of these things. Does the car come with the original harness? Or a Megasquirt ecu for that matter, depending on whether you want to go ahead ...

Re: Shrick 284/280 Cam in M30B35
New pistons is a can of worms, as you need to disassemble the whole block and re-hone the cylinder bores at the least. However I'm sure there are vendors offering high-comp pistons specifically for a B35 with valve reliefs already taken into account.

Re: Shrick 284/280 Cam in M30B35
Sadly, you can't gain all that much compression just by shaving the head. Shaving it .010" only gets you about one tenth of a point. I wouldn't try shaving it .020" without measuring piston-to-valve clearance first.

Re: Shrick 284/280 Cam in M30B35
The Shrick compared to the B35 is essentially the same duration but more lift, according to this chart (attachment)
On its own, should be worth a modest boost in the midrange.

Hopefully someone who knows well the electricals on later cars can answer, but I think autos have a relay under the dash which delivers power to the starter solenoid. I would look there.

Re: Driveshaft?
A few thoughts: I would say driveshaft problems usually result in a thumping or clunking sound. I did have a noisy center bearing once, but I would describe it as more of a grinding than squealing. You should be able to easily see the guibo just by raising the car. I expect that labor cost for repla...

Re: 635CSi hesitates
It's normal for fuel pressure to be lower at idle. The regulator is designed to hold pressure constant relative to manifold pressure, that's what the small vacuum hose is for. Manifold pressure is ~.5 bar lower at idle. If you had a problem with fuel flow it would show up under high load, ie. when f...

Re: 635CSi hesitates
I'm trying to imagine a scenario where the battery light comes on with the engine still spinning and it also causes loss of power. If it was just failing alternator brushes or a slipping belt I wouldn't expect the engine to hesitate. Could it be a bad connection on the back of the alternator? Or a s...

Re: M30B35 compression pressure
14.7 stp x 9= 132.3 psi, or thereabout. Calculating what the number should be according to physics is actually a lot trickier than that. On the one hand, some of the air can slip back out the intake valve after BDC so you don't get the full volume. But on the other hand, compressed air also heats u...

Might be a good time to do the guibo/giubo/flexdisc and the transmission mounts if the rubber is showing any signs of coming apart. There are several parts in the shift linkage, and the more of them that you replace the better it gets. See this page: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=527...

Re: Engine Flooding when turned over 1988 m6
Could be a bad temp sensor causing the ECU to inject too much fuel. Or injectors leaking. Just a couple of ideas.
Does the M6 have a cold-start valve? That could be another culprit.

This is another one of those things I used to know but now my memory is foggy and it's hard to find the information again. This is a picture of a rotor adaptor from a 3.2, but I think they had one with a different key also that would not interchange.

Re: 1982 633CSI - Engine Locked up from sitting
Thank you. Can I drop the pan with the subframe in the car? I'm not sure about this. I seem to remember that on an M20 I managed to sneak the pan out by strategically turning the crankshaft to avoid hitting the counterweights on the way out. Since yours won't turn you would need more clearance. Unb...

Re: 1982 633CSI - Engine Locked up from sitting
Never encountered this problem before but my first move would be to pull the valve cover and see how the top end looks. The valve train and chain could surely benefit from lubrication although that may not be enough to get the engine freed up. Next up would be dropping the oil pan.
