Re: M88 vs S38
Thanks dave, so the M88 block would mate up to the S38 head and cam carrier as long as the S38 timing chain cover is used?

M88 vs S38
Can someone confirm for me whether the S38B35 is physically longer to cater for the dual-row chain, or would an S38B35 cam carrier bolt up to an M88/3 block and head?

Custom pistons
As part of my M88 strip/rebuild, I'm intending to swap to using the M30 crank (86mm instead of 84mm from memory). My understanding is that to do that, you need to use S38B36 pistons in order to avoid the standard ones smashing poetically into the valves. However, I'd also like to go to some cheekier...

Re: M88/3 strip...
I'm not sure what you are hoping to achieve by using a remote filter, but do note that a simple blanking plate won't work on every M30/M88 motor, because in some versions one of the openings in the block is a return passage for oil that burps past a pressure relief valve or something. This is what'...

...and hopefully a rebuild too! Thought I'd make a thread, mostly so I'll have something to refer back to, but also for any creative input the collective may have. Brace yourselves - this is E28 related, although the engine did start life in an M635. The background is that this engine lives in my E2...

Finally got my M88/3 out of the race car last week to start the tear-down/rebuild.

Re: Help ID these brakes
After a bit more digging I suspect that they are E12 callipers, from an E12 based E24.

Help ID these brakes
Does anyone recognise these brakes - they came as part of a set with M5/M635 fronts. RealOEM suggests they're not M5 or M635 as it lists the one piece callipers as are fitted to my car currently. http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s278/dan101smith/FAB0CF1C-9485-48CC-AEF8-B02371592D78_zpsrbsjpmtn.jpg

Wow, interesting email chain.
It's pretty clear from not very far in that there was never an intention to supply a headliner or a refund. I feel for you, and hope others find this post before placing an order.

Re: LSD Help
I wouldn't worry about them being NLA, any decent diff builder should be able to source you some replacements. If memory serves, there was a Volvo diff from the same era that used the same parts.

Re: LSD Help
Rob, I'd just get the diff refurbished back to factory spec if I were you. Good opportunity to get seals and bearings replaced while you're there, and to check for any significant wear to the CW+P.

Both of those are only for the leather part - I need the frame.
Never mind, I think I've sorted one.

WTB - gear lever gaiter
I'm looking for a gear lever gaiter for a manual car. It's for an E28, but the E24 parts apparently are the same according to RealOEM.
Colour and condition unimportant, but the plastic frame at the base must be in good condition.
I'm in the UK, so local or willing to ship please!
