Re: 1986 635CSi - Toronto

Looks like a fairly nice car. For a 35 year old car in southwestern ontario, yours is probably one of the better ones remaining! Felt I had to comment because I'm in London Ontario, also with an '86, also not perfect (or even close) as you put it, 'a 10 footer' though I've been stuck with a white ho...

Re: Feedback from those using a Miller MAF.

I've been on the fence as well to be honest. Reconditioned AFM + conforti chip would cost more than the Miller MAF. So now I'm maybe leaning in that direction (towards Miller). But I already have injectors on their way too, so I'm also thinking I might finish one upgrade at time instead of trying to...

Re: 85 vs 86 injectors

After calling and talking with fiveomotorsport, they suggested I go with the gen 3 injectors - 0280155884 They said they used to sell a lot of the yellow top 'mustang' injectors, but they're old now - they only sell refurb of those. Price was almost the same anyway, so I took the new gen 3's. These ...

Re: Feedback from those using a Miller MAF.

From what I have seen and read previously, you need to cut some wires to use the Miller MAF. I don't really love the idea of cutting wires and making that kind of change in order to use an aftermarket item. Years from now I imagine it being a bit more difficult to diagnose problems if that kind of c...

Re: What Oil do you Use in your 6'er

I was always taught that special brands and types of oil are more marketing than anything else, I'd say that's especially true as long as you're not dealing with anything exotic. I think I've used everything from 15w40 to 5w50 - always synthetic. I might be a bit more finicky if I owned an M car, bu...

Re: 85 vs 86 injectors

Yes, I had been looking at fiveomotorsport. The injectors they seem to have are the part # I referred to 0280155884, https://www.fiveomotorsport.com/0280155884-oem-upgrade-bmw/ which actually seems the same as 0280156372. Just was wanting to be more certain that my car's year and build date wouldn't...

Re: High Idle

Likely due to how you re-connected your throttle position switch to the new throttle body and how you adjusted the throttle stop and cable. Your throttle position switch should make a very slight 'click' sound when you go from no throttle to throttle on and should make the same click when going from...

85 vs 86 injectors

I've noticed that on some sites, the injectors listed for 1985 635 seem different than those listed for the 1986. On others there is no difference. It's a bit of a problem for me because my car is an 86 but with an 85 build date and I've noticed that sometimes I end up with the wrong parts because o...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Replaced the idle air control valve last week, replaced all the 3.5mm vacuum lines this week. Idle seems improved, and the lines I was throwing out were clearly past their prime. Had been hoping that this would cure my hard start issue as well, but I'm not convinced. Seemed to start perfect when col...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Replaced original comfort seats with power sport seats. Less obvious but more critical, this year I've replaced the starter (upgrade to E34 starter), and had a new guibo put in to fix the issue that was causing my shift linkage to hit the top of the guibo while shifting from 4th to 5th and in 5th ge...

Re: What do you think the best looking rims are for the shark?

I always have liked BBS Style 5's. Look great, fit great, not too hard to get, not too expensive, 'stock' looking enough to not be distracting, I get lots of complements on them from people who see my car.

Re: Starter motor options

Just did this job on a 1986 635. Took off nothing, took apart nothing, undid nothing, except the 2 starter bolts. Used the 17mm wrench from the BMW tool kit. With the BMW wrench in hand, getting the original starter off wasn't too difficult and didn't take that long. Getting it out without taking an...
