Re: Heater blower transistor failure mystery...

Did you check the fan speed switch transistor inside the fan switch housing? Or that delicate little quarter-turn variable pot? It's made by a German stereo company called Ruwido. They're still in business, but only produce universal remotes today. I'm told it has dual resistance tracks, but I haven...

Re: Thought I'd introduce myself...and my '82 633CSi

Been three years since my last post, seems like my usual schedule! :D I've actually done quite a bit to the car over that time period. Here's a short list: E32 740i brake calipers, running E24 M6 rotors in front, 540i rotors in rear. Pulled the Euro B34 for a long-overdue rebuild, valve seals were p...

Re: Electric winch?

I have a a similar setup with the cheap HF 2500# winch and an Amazon emergency battery pack. I fully recommend it. I have the 12VDC version and wondered how to anchor it. I ended up using an ATV mounting bracket, bolted that into a 2" receiver 'step' plate extension. I only use it with my 4x8 t...

Re: What to do with 1983 BMW 745 Euro???

Nice save on the E23! They are nice cars, well worth saving. It might not be practical to sell in California due to the fees, but many other states are far more classic car-friendly. PA makes the title process time-consuming, although it's cheap & pretty easy.

Re: Thought I'd introduce myself...and my '82 633CSi

It's been a LOONG time since I updated this, figured I'd share the good news. The E24 is still in great shape. I had it on the road for a month or so until it was sidelined with some rough running troubles. I never did like the feel of the clutch, so that's getting fixed too. Otherwise she's in grea...

Re: Thought I'd introduce myself...and my '82 633CSi

Not much to report this week on the E24. I was busy with a moving project. We have new neighbors next door. They hated their shed & asked me if I knew anyone that would take it away it. I was immediately interested, asked them if I could move it instead, and they were happy to oblige. It's fairl...

Re: Thought I'd introduce myself...and my '82 633CSi

This week's fun activity was installing the exhaust. It's missing a few parts, and has a few holes, but it'll do until I can get the car ready to roll. I had to drop the front anti-roll bar along with the chassis reinforcing bar, but it bolted up perfectly to the stock Euro cast iron exhaust headers...

Re: Considering my *next* shark

I think that's a fun daily driver. For the money it's a bargain unless there is some massive amount of hidden frame rust. If you pass on the deal, definitely post the details. I wouldn't worry about an offer as long as it's fairly made. There were times in my life that cutting a car loose for $1200 ...

Re: Thought I'd introduce myself...and my '82 633CSi

I learn new stuff every day with this car. I'm currently stuck on a bunch of small issues. I'm nailing them down one by one. Whilst installing the B35 loom onto the Euro B34, I've tardily discovered that the distributor and plug wires are different in more ways than one. I already knew that the cam ...

Re: Thought I'd introduce my next project....an '86 635CSi

Diff fun! Here's a few pics from my little swap. I had a large case 3.07 from a Euro parts car that didn't fit, so I swapped it for a medium case 3.54 from an '00 Z3 2.3. Old Euro 635CSi 'hybrid' diff. Note the Type 210 large case ~but~ I suspect that's a Type 188 ring/pinion & carrier: http://i...

Waking this thread up after two years! I can't believe it's been that long. I should say, I can't believe it's been that long and it's not on the road. Life gets in the way sometimes, I suppose. Anyhow, here's a status update. I've spent two years looking for reasonably-priced parts to cobble the ca...

Seems like you're on the right track...I'm thinking there's a short somewhere on the un-fused part of the harness. Have you pulled the cover off the fuse box? The early cars tended to have troubles there. (Is there a diode in there on the E24? Other BMWs have them). If the fuse box is clean internal...

I can probably get you a measurement of one with the leather on, but I don't have any naked ones.

IIRC there are a few different sizes of M-Tech II wheels available.

The car is a lot rougher than it looks in those pictures. I've also been picking it over to help out some other members. Much of the good stuff is already sold (door seals, seats, stereo, wheel and spoiler). I'm hoping to have the car gone by the end of the year. If it's still here it's fair game. B...

Thanks for the quick update...glad you got it sorted out. I'm told the later gear-reduction M30 starters (>88?) got rid of the spade terminal in favor of a ring-type terminal.

There is a safety interlock relay attached to that switch that's engaged unless the switch senses N or D. If you have trouble getting the switch working, you can disable the safety (temporarily) by jumping the switch in the shifter assembly. You could also jump the #30 & 87 terminals of the rela...

Looks like an M90 to me. They're supposed to be the rev-happiest of the big sixes, considering their bigger bore and shorter stroke. I'm not sure about valuation, but if I were buying one I'd want to know compression PSI or leakdown % and crank end play. The VIN is a bit too early for full informati...

It does have the 011. I've cleaned it but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. I'll be converting it to a 179 eventually, I'll let you know when the 011 is available. The AFM will be with it too. They're matched, aren't they?

I've seen a lot of people install newer BMW OEM units, like the CD43. Those would be a great choice in terms of fit and finish. I've never seen another unit that would fit the oddball BMW mountings, although most of the aftermarket slide-locking units aren't that bad. Depth is usually the biggest pr...

I have seen a few what I presume are "Euro" spec motors with long intake runners. Is this part of what provides extra hp over US Spec motors and why wouldn't US Spec motors have this runner? Can it be fitted to a US Spec head? There is a 1980 Euro spec car being parted in the Buy/Sell wit...
