Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I am wondering if we reverse our thinking. Scan the body sealing surface and scan the taillight mounting frame and somehow combine the two? Fanciful idea as I'm not in the 3D scanning biz. I think the best result would probably come from fitting a new seal (I have one) into the rear light frame to ...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Not that I know of. I don’t know what the official BMW position is, I’ve not heard from them for several years. If you can find a way to manufacture them I’m still interested.

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I have a brand new, unused right side seal. If you think you can scan it to get a 3D image then I can send it to you.

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I think the main issue with 3D modelling will be getting accurate measurements. They are quite floppy, you’d probably be best put only the frame, at least to get initial measurements of the surface that goes against the bodywork.

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I'm not sure that they are officially NLA, just on back order and they have been for a little over 4 years. Various reasonably senior people at BMW have said that they were being made, then that they had failed quality control tests. Exactly what the current situation is I don' know. You'd not have ...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Fine by me Ron. If possible 2 sets for me and 2 sets for Sharkfan. If demand is high, just one left side for me would be great.

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Left side is most important for me, on the M1 that’s above the exhaust and gets hotter. I think if I took out the left side rear light that the gasket would fall apart.

I’ll take at least 4 of each side for people I know in the UK and myself.

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

As of 2 Jan 2019
We are on the subject, but we can't say today when we will be available the parts again.
Maybe it will take even longer, sorry.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Best regards

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Latest reply from BMW Classic : Sorry, we have many problems with the gaskets (PN 1360465 / 466). We get a prototype from our supplier but the parts are not good. We have find a new producer but he needs a new tool. Possibly we get the new parts in the spring 2018, or later. Mit freundlichen Grüßen ...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I would imagine you could take a mould from it. The main problem would be getting the thing to stay still, it's quite floppy.

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Well, based on the first reply quoted, I guess from the "dealership of your choice" - who will probably say it's NLA!

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Received this from BMW Classic this morning after requesting technical specifications and dimensions for the part they were not going to reproduce. Thank you kindly for your patience. We investigated your matter carefully and regret that we have no option to give you information about the dimension ...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I think as has already been said, quite a few sites will list the light gaskets as being available, but when you actually order they come back and say that they are not. I have a brand new right side seal that could be used as a pattern, the left being a mirror image (I believe). I've approached a c...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Many thanks, I'll give them a few days before pestering again! What on earth is "BMW Group Classic Car Disposition Info Service and Hotline", I understand the words, but what does the 'Classic Car Disposition' department do and what's different to "BMW Group Classic Info Service and H...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

No problem waiting till march, I'm not desperate for the seal but I'm pretty sure I will need one at some point. My existing seal looks ok, but it's stuck to both the light frame and body, so I can't remove the light without risking destroying the seal. On my car the left seal is directly over the e...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I don't think one person at BMW talks to anyone else about things like this!! I've spoken to Hella UK, they responded quickly to emails but were not much help. They have record of the part numbers on the gaskets but say they are the property of BMW so no information about them can be released. They ...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

Interesting. The seal I got the number from was the last UK stock of the right side, I've just looked at the used seal that I have and that has part number 117 652 X2 embossed in it (also a 2 after the R rotated through 90 degrees, the new seal has a 4). Maybe the part number changed on the last pro...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

BMW Classic are now denying that they ever had plans to make any more of these seals! Pretty sure it will be a dead end, but I'm going to keep pestering them! Has anyone ever tried contacting Hella directly? The Right seal that I have has the Hella part number 135 834-00 embossed on the moulding. An...

Re: Group interest - rear light frame seals

I've had a couple of left side seals on order from BMW for a couple of months. I also spoke to someone from BMW Classic in Munich in September, they said that the seals were being made and would be ready for testing in December, if they passed testing then they would be available in January/February...

Yes, it was me behind you. I'd just joined the M4 from Swindon and was on the phone (hands free of course) so had slowed down so I could hear the person on the other end when you went past. As I said the car looked stunning, although at the time I thought it might be an M635CSi as it has an ///M bad...

A little off topic and thread resurrection, but I followed this car between Swindon and Chippenham on the M4 late this afternoon, Sunday 26 July, I was in the white car with a similar engine!

The car looked immaculate, despite the rain that was about, it really stood out from the croud!
