Re: Minor Wandering Idle Question

Thank you gentlemen.

I'm really glad it's running as it should. I didn't need more vacuum leak problems. My 850 is enough. I have to reseal both intakes due to vacuum leaks. I would rather eat glass than do that.

Again,

Thank you all!

Re: Minor Wandering Idle Question

Report: Pulled the dipstick as suggested. It almost died when I pulled it, then recovered. Idled kind of weird while it was out. I then reinstalled the dipstick, there was a very minor hesitation, then settled down into a good idle. Don't know if this is okay, or is the sign of a problem. Please let...

Re: Minor Wandering Idle Question

Bert; Thanks for the off-the-wall suggestion. I'm going to try it because I'm kind of at my wits end, so there isn't anything that's off the table. [-o< TN-M6; I have to ask if there are differences between US spec and EC spec cars besides horsepower and maybe emissions equipment? My euro spec 635 i...

Minor Wandering Idle Question

I did search! Please don't yell at me! Other than finding a whole bunch of miss-spelled "wondering" when searching for "wandering" and "idle wandering", I didn't find my problem. So, here goes. 1985 US 635CSiA, 177K miles. Replaced main intake hose/duct/rubber thing fro...

Electrical Weirdness!

Gentlemen (& Ladies?); 1985 Euro 635Csi. =D> Recently replaced the window/sunroof switches with led illuminated versions of same. Had previously done the same thing in my US '85 635 and everything worked fine. This is where it gets weird. 8-[ The only ones that light up are the ones on the conso...

Re: Auxiliary Fan - Again - SOLVED!

Finally got the grills and kidneys out and low and behold found the connector for the auxiliary fan just dangling. Plugged it in, started the car, fired up the A/C and HOORAY, it worked. Think the A/C needs a bit of a charge, but I now have an auxiliary fan, so I don't need to stress about an overhe...

Re: Auxiliary Fan - Again

Did some ETK digging because I could not find the "extra" fuse block anywhere. According to the ETK, based on my VIN, it was never installed and what's even weirder, in Part Use, it says it wasn't fitted to 635's st all, just 633's and earlier. Yet, I vaguely remember seeing one on (I thin...

Auxiliary Fan - Again

Car 1985 635CSi Euro Spec. Manual Trans. (12/4/1984) Auxiliary fan does not operate, which means no A/C and it's in the 100's What I've done... 1. Verified fan turns by hand and is free with no binding or scraping. 2. Verified all fuses are good. 3. Jumpered the normal speed fan coolant temperature ...

Re: Lazy Tachometer?

Thank you for the prompt response.

I completely forgot about the SI board and all it's weird problems. I installed a ProGrama replacement board that did not require batteries in my U.S. Spec E24. Looks like I may have to do the same with this one.

Again, thank you,
Mike

Lazy Tachometer?

Gentlemen; My 1985 E24 (12/4/1984 production) 5 speed, ECE 635CSi, has developed a lazy tachometer. Most of the time it does not work, other times, it seems to come out of it's slumber struggling to start reading RPM's as it should. It almost acts like a bad connection somewhere. After staring...

Re: Finally! '85 635CSi - Euro-Spec-Stick!

Wow! for $2300 I think I will learn to love the dash cracks. It has a nice blue dash cover on it right now, so hopefully the cracks won't get any worse. I was afraid that pulling the windshield was a possibility, which is something I don't want to do either. Since you replaced your shift linkage wit...

Re: Clutch & Shifter Questions

Thank you gentlemen. Ken; Once I bleed the system, if it should not solve the issue, is there an adjustment process? I vaguely remember something about pulling driveshafts and exhausts to work on transmission things. I really hope not. I replaced the driveshaft on my 850 and it's not a "fun&quo...

Clutch & Shifter Questions

Finally picked up a 1985 635CSi Euro spec 5 speed car and have a couple of questions already. 1. The pressure (release) point on the clutch is about 2" off the floor. Is this correct? I'm used to those being closer to center-of-travel or the top. 2. The shifter seems a bit vague, stiff or notch...

Re: Finally! '85 635CSi - Euro-Spec-Stick!

Gentlemen; This is the post where the questions start. The car has 214k miles and feels very solid. The suspension "works" and there are no odd "bangs". Took it out for a spin and it was a blast! It's true, one never forgets how to row the gears, but it led to some inquiries. :?:...

Re: Finally! '85 635CSi - Euro-Spec-Stick!

More interior pics of the dash. It has a weird floor mat on the driver's side. I'm sure the original died a long time ago, but as you'll see, the passenger side is still intact. :D

Pics also showing the dash cracks. But, maybe repairable???

Round two!

Moving on: Here are pics of the interior. As I mentioned earlier, the PO's brother had installed "furry" seat covers when the car was new and I found (almost) showroom quality front seats, it was amazing!

Re: Finally! '85 635CSi - Euro-Spec-Stick!

Well, the big day came yesterday! Got a call from the seller last Thursday and we agreed on yesterday (Saturday) to do the deal. During the call he told me he just couldn't physically nor mentally finish the rust repair. I understand that. One of the effects of PTSD is a lack of motivation. One just...

Re: Finally! '85 635CSi - Euro-Spec-Stick!

Thanks for keeping an eye on this thread. Here's the latest... The seller had surgery on his neck. Like me, these old bones and joints don't always want to cooperate. He had a fusion of a couple of his cervical vertebrae because he was in so much pain, so has been laid up for a while. I haven't push...

Re: Finally! '85 635CSi - Euro-Spec-Stick!

Ken;

You are right about the odo gears vs. M62 timing chains, they aren't really in the same league.

Again, thanks for the information on the transmission. Better to find out about it here than freak out about it later.

See ya,

Mike

Re: Finally! '85 635CSi - Euro-Spec-Stick!

Okay. I know sticks are noisier than autos. I've driven cars with straight cut gears. There's a symphony of noises not soon forgotten. As long as it's just normal sounds and not some sort of dooms day scenario like E39 cooling systems, E24 odometer gears or M62 timing chain guides, I can hang. :D Th...
