Sticky Accelerator pedal/bushings E12 Based RHD

Hi there, Sticky accelerator: My RHD e12 based E24 - seems that the accelerator pedal assembly is pretty tight. When the car gets warm it seizes up and sticks. Am about to embark on disassembly and lube. I think RHD cars were an afterthought looking at the complex linkage system. Hoping I dont have ...

RHD Exhaust manifold for M88 into E12 chassis?

Ok so I'm building an M88 to place in my e12 chassis based JPS tribute and I'm having trouble sourcing exhaust headers that will fit. There are a few off-the-shelf RHD headers for m30s in e28chassis , a few for e12 in LHD. But RHD in e12 is a struggle. So questions in order of 'just get the car runn...

Re: ECU upgrade including coil on plug conversion.

Hey Gaz, looking forward to how this all works out. Once My engine is built I'll hopefully be heading out to Rama also. Can I ask what you're doing with exhaust? Are you running headers or stock? As mines going in an E12 chassis headers are looking difficult to source. Most likely will be going cust...

Last few inches of gentle braking juddering to left and right

So brakes - brain trust. I just replaced my shocks with Bilstein B8s and since then when I brake the car stops perfectly except for the last couple of inches at very low speed where there’s the final weight transfer and it seems like the brakes almost disengage with a metallic twang and the car of j...

Re: Motronic ECU battery drain/relay fault?

My 81 Euro with Motronic, same ECU as yours,. It was idling in the driveway and quit. After checking for fuel, the coil etc We found it to be a relay,5 prong as Ralph said , and mounted in the same place as yours Thanks for the feedback. Exactly the same thing happened to me. Car idling then quit. ...

Motronic ECU battery drain/relay fault?

Hi, I have a battery electrical drain coming from possibly the ECU or this part (relay?) highlighted. I've looked on wiring diagrams but can't figure it out. Car turns over and starts fine, but when this part is unplugged, the electrical drain disappears but the car won't start. Could it be a faulty...

Couple more pics So after a 3.5 year journey here we are. JPS GroupC E24 is registered and running. Livery installed last week and made it's debut on Sunday. Reviews have been positive so far. Next project will be brakes, then performance. If anyone has an M30B34, M88 or S38 for sale hit me up! CCE...

Re: Group C JPS tribute build.

So it's been a while since I posted. The car is now in Sydney, in lockdown. Very frustrating! I even had a mechanic come in to change the clutch master cylinder and the day after he'd removed the parts, we went into lockdown. Luckily today (after two months) he came back and fixed the clutch which n...

Early e12 vs S2 E28 wheel fitment measurements

Hi, I need to get my wheels sized up for my 1980 Shark, E12 based chassis. However it's off the road for the moment. My 1986 S2 is fully functional. My wheel retailers want to measure up my car (I am running big flares). Can anyone tell me how much different the suspension clearances are between E12...

Ridiculously wide JPS guards to fill. Help needed!

Hi, I’m building a JPS tribute on a 1980 E12 based series 1. The flares are enormous and I’m trying to fill them with wheel and rubber. I’m realising now that replicating a race car doesn’t translate directly to the road. The test mule is running 265 /40/16s with 20mm spacers on 9.5 rims which rub s...

Re: Top Loader gearbox into 1980 M90 635 - any experience?

Not to be rude, but that is why the confusion. That is not what a top loader gear box is when commonly referred to. That is just the way the shift linkage is in a ZF gear box.A top loader really refers to a Ford 4 speed of the Muscle car years. If I am correct, I have only seen one other of those Z...

Re: Top Loader gearbox into 1980 M90 635 - any experience?

I think this gent doesn't know what he is doing. As to matching the fly wheel you can get a clutch plate in various diameters or have one made not expensively to match the BMW pressure plate. Ok so I wasn't far off - apparently it's a "toplader" - a ZF S4-18/3. Is there anything special a...

Top Loader gearbox into 1980 M90 635 - any experience?

I have the opportunity to install a top loader gear box in my 1980 M90 JPS tribute - doesn't anyone have experience with this? Which bellhousing would be compatible? Need for Motronic pickups etc? I believe some BMWs in the 70s came with top loaders but I can't find any info. Thanks in advance!

Re: Group C JPS tribute build.

Wheels will probably need spacers. Would like to lower it more but the spoiler is quite deep, so may be an issue. This is the prototype built by @ozibimmer. I haven't driven it yet but expect the steering weight to be horrendous! In the long run I will probably get custom wheels made.

Re: E12 based car

.....I am all clear about ....... J-tronic vs M-tronic ....... Post 5/82 cars have a considerably improved rear suspension design. This can (with some work) be fitted into an earlier chassis and it is probably worthwhile if you are going for a power upgrade. Post 5/82 cars also have a completely di...

Re: Getrag Transmission Numbers.... Again

Great info, thanks Brucey. I'm interested if anyone has an opinion how the 265/6 feels compared to the 260. I've heard the 265 is referred to as a more desirable box. Does it feel sportier? Different linkage feel? Tighter? I believe the 265/5 CR is referred to as the sports box, was the 265/ever ref...

Thanks Brucey, that's really helpful. I won't be modifying the suspension, so will just have to live with it. Can you describe the handling issues I will have with the positive scrub radius?
