parking light switch
The parking brake light on the instrument panel is now lit all the time. I am guessing that the switch down by the parking brake lever either needs some adjustment or is malfunctioning. This is a pretty basic question, but how the heck do I get to the switch? I don't see any connectors that would re...

Yes, those three issues were addressed. Sorry, I should have mentioned that in the initial post.

Steering chattering
My 1989 635csi has been nearly flawless in the 10 years that I have owned it, but has recently exhibited "chattering" when turning the steering wheel. This is primarily evident when the car is just started in the morning, but I noticed that it is also barely doing it after the car warms up...

4HP22 free
I have a 1989 4HP22 automatic transmission, that I removed when I converted over to a manual transmission. It was working perfectly a year or so ago when removed and has 117,000 on it. Come and get it, it is yours. Will not ship.

Re: Upper timing chain cover removal
Thanks so much for the replies. I just got in from a successful trip to the garage. The bolt is definitely right handed. I was able to get a small butane torch in the recess, put some heat on it and the bolt broke loose! I will now move forward to repair the leak and put it in a new distributor cap ...

Upper timing chain cover removal
I have a leak at the bottom of my upper timing chain cover and finally decided to replace the gaskets, etc. I have removed the distributor cap and rotor and now see that there is an "adapter" that attaches the rotor to the camshaft. In order to remove the chain cover to replace the gaskets...

Re: rear a/c evaporator cover
It was those few hidden screws that stopped me. It is probably just me, but I am scared of 30 year old plastic. Specifically, the screws under the front, side leather cover were the ones that slowed me down.

Re: rear a/c evaporator cover
If I replace the original compressor with a Sanden compressor, and buy and install the adaptor brackets, will the new compressor bolt right to the original hoses? The reason I ask is that I have enough R12 left over to charge the system from my younger more flamboyant days and for me it might be the...

Re: rear a/c evaporator cover
Thanks Dean. I looked through that service manual previously and did not spot the sections that you pointed out. After your reply, I checked again and there was the procedure right in front of me. (Old Timers disease?) Went out to the shop and finished pulling it apart. No dye in that section of the...

rear a/c evaporator cover
I have looked all over the website for a procedure to remove the cover for the rear a/c on my 1989 E24. So far I have removed the seats and the obvious screws located on the sides of the cover. It will not budge. I injected some dye into the system and would like to check for any leaks in the system...

Re: Removing plastic lenses on ellipsoid headlights
Hi Dean, Thanks for the reply. I got up early this morning and looked at them again. It turns out that if you just get your fingernails behind the edge of the plastic lens, it will, with a little patience and careful prying, come off. I put a warm solution of water and dish soap inside of them and g...

Removing plastic lenses on ellipsoid headlights
Hi everyone, The plastic lenses on my 89 have dirt and other gunk on the inside of them. Has anyone tried to remove and clean them. I was able to polish the outside of the them and remove any scratches. The grilles are removed, but it looks like the plastic is some glued to the headlight assembly. T...

Re: About to start auto to manual swap
Moving right along. The manual transmission has been installed, the engine has been run, the clutch operates and the transmission goes into all gears without any fuss. All this took place in the garage and I have yet to take it for a test drive. What I have noticed, though, is that the Getrag 260 no...

About to start auto to manual swap
I ended up getting the parts car for the swap. It was a 1983 633Csi with the Getrag 260 in it. The car was a disaster, but the engine turns over and the transmission, driveshaft and other necessary parts seem to be in great shape. I have removed all the parts that I needed/wanted and took the shell ...

Re: Battery Dying out
I just went through this routine with my recently purchased 635. I put the multimeter on the car to determine drain and started pulling fuses. Fuse 21 was the culprit. After trying for sometime to detect the culprit, I finally got around to disconnecting the the seat belt chime which is located on t...

Re: auto to manual swap--again
Thanks for all the replies. I am still working out some bugs in my "new" 635 and will probably address the transmission swap in the next week or so. The guy is in no big hurry to get rid of the car, so I have some breathing room. I will consider that 265 in Indianapolis, though.

auto to manual swap--again
I have a line on a 1984 633 with the 5 speed manual. I would eventually like to swap manual into my 1989 635. First of all, will this 1984 driveline swap directly into my 1989? Second, is the transmission the 260 or 265? (If it has the less desirable transmission, it would not be a deal breaker). Th...

I just bought a beautiful black 1989 635Csi L6 with about 1150000 miles on it and absolutely no rust. I had a 630Csi back in the 80's and early 90's, and I have always kept an eye out for another one that I could play with and drive. I will have a few questions on the car as I go along and am sure t...
