Re: Another "what's this mystery connector" thread

It is definitely not OBC related. I know this because I decided to go down the "Fix the OBC" rabbit hole and found the connector then. Mine is a 11/83 production car with a 12 button. The OBC display goes directly to the computer in one multi pin connector and the car supplies its info on ...

Thanks. Mine is not nearly as detailed as yours. It is a decent driver that gets comments about every time it is out of the garage. Smiles on my face every time I drive it. Probably get buried in it.

It's not OBC. I have a 12 button. The connectors are completely different.

Another "what's this mystery connector" thread

Working on the car yesterday I came across this connector. It was near the radio towards the passenger side. I looked for a four pin connector that matched in the ETM, none listed in the connector/ground portion. An initial review of the schematic hasn't found it yet.

Sharks In The Wild

Anyone remember the "Sharks in the wild" site? It came to mind tonight so I looked it up. My car from the Wayback Machine back in '04: https://web.archive.org/web/20041117014526im_/http://sharksinthewild.com/pages/imageslmn/lund2.jpg Exterior and interior look no different. The engine bay,...

Have you run the caliper part number through Realoem? I "ass"ume there is a part number cast into the caliper?

The window "lockout" is actually a breaker. Mine is in the panel below the dash on the driver side. Moved to the console in later models?

Re: Injectors 4,5, and 6 not working, euro E12-based 1981 635CSI with Motronic (late 1981-82)

Well, on an '84 injectors 4-6 are grounded by the ECU at pin 15 using the Brown/yellow tracer wire with a splice presumably nearby in the injector harness. My guess either the ECU or the wire. Actually the splice or ECU connector, rarely does a wire go bad. This assumes your car is similar enough to...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Washed of yesterday's road grime. It was still damp early yesterday on the drive to Sebring. A small cold front passed overnight leaving very nice weather all day. Met up with a couple friends for the drive. Attended the SVRA vintage, GT America and Trans Am races. There is a large car show there as...

Air conditioning? What is this sorcery of which you speak? (Mine has never worked in either E24....that's why they get little use during the summer) . I got a cool sorcerer's hat and wand from ebay and made mine work. In Florida. In August. All it takes is time, patience, and of course money. It is...

Re: WTB Instrument Cluster housing for 88 M6

I'll try to pull it out tomorrow and confirm condition. There are no cracks. The difference between the failed glue joint on both your housing and my cover may make it interesting to get a nice clean new joint interesting. Hopefully the joint will not be too visible. I can tell, for example, where t...

I have a parts cluster with a loose lens. I believe it is in decent shape. I want the cluster, but may part with the lens. I'll pull it out and check the condition.

I'd think connections. Somewhere. The key is which somewhere. As I posted in the "What did you do to your E24 today" thread: https://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=240174#p240174 . A good connection cleaning is probably in order. It fixed my wonky speedometer and instrument cluster is...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Today I drove it, but that is not the point of posting, is it? Recently I decided it time to address the wonky speedometer. It would sometimes be honest and at others bounce about randomly, display ludicrous speeds or just peg the meter. Driving in my neighborhood looking at a 130 MPH speed was ente...

My '84 has it, riveted on to the arm. I always assumed it was there to add pressure to the blade at speed.

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

It probably won't mean anything to your exhaust leak. I repeatedly had to repair a leak where my turbo down pipe met the exhaust. It is a flat round four bolt flange. Tired of making the repairs I decided to fix it once and for all. First I cut a new gasket out of soft copper plate. Then sealed it o...

Re: Moving Power Seats on the Work Bench for Cleaning/Maint

The buttons work in conjunction with the seat controller. They wouldn't be necessary to use either to run the seat motors on the bench. The motors are permanent magnet which means by reversing the polarity the motor changes direction. Page 159 of my '84 model ETM, attached, shows the motor wire colo...

Re: 1970's Cars

I'm curious about early car brakes as I have zero experience with them. Can the E12 based cars upgrade brakes from the BMW parts bin? I did the 5 series front/7 series rear with an E32 master years ago on my '84 (non ABS BTW). Is something like this possible?

I just reassembled my cluster after a contact cleaning to hopefully clear up a wonky bouncing and pegging speedometer. I removed it again when I drove it and had on odometer. I guess I have been on borrowed time for quite a while. Opened up the speedometer and sure enough the motor gear was in three...

Re: Power steering pump misbehavior

Pump cavitation is caused by a restriction not allowing sufficient fluid flow into the pump. I didn't see mention of the filter condition, nor of the condition of the suction hose. When a pump cavitates it pulls a vacuum that can vaporize a fluid causing bubbles. When the pressure changes and the va...
