Re: My henna 84

Looking good, do you have a part number for that? Also, are you going to a later S38 harmonic balancer, or something else?

Thanks,

Eric

Re: 85 euro m635csi & m88/3 timing chain - my project

That is very interesting! I was not aware of this supplier, and you are right, this part looks completely machined with a potentially replaceable wear surface. Thanks for the link. I am very intrigued about their part now.

Thanks again,

Re: 85 euro m635csi & m88/3 timing chain - my project

This is some stellar work and possibly even better documentation. Thank you very much! Sounds like I need to find a machinist for the lower chain tensioner. Do you know how the guy determined how much to remove? Did he measure the old one and match it or just use the pin as the guideline? Could you ...

Re: My henna 84

As always, some kick ass work going on here. I do have a few questions. Not clear on the tube in the plenum. Is the outside air coming into the plenum from the bottom and therefore going through the tube first in an effort to evenly fill the plenum and therefore evenly supply air to every cylinder o...

Re: 85 euro m635csi - my project

Once again, nice job and thanks for sharing. I seem to recall there were a couple of options for the oil pump chain length and sprocket no. of teeth. Do you know which version you used? How much movement did you measure after you got the chain to where you wanted? I'll guess the Smashing Pumpkins on...

DO you have any after pics that show what you did to them before and/or after sending to get coated? Did yours come from Germany as well?

You're my hero. I have to tackle this sometime in the next few months. I also won't switch to the dual row chain (but will upgrade the chain tensioner as I feel that is the real culprit to chain failures). To be clear, you never found a source for a new exhaust sprocket, is that correct? I have foun...

Re: My henna 84

Awesome stuff. Making good progress there. I have a few questions: 1) where did you get the Mk60 ABS parts? I have pondered doing the same thing. Are you swapping teeth rings and abs sensors at the hubs? Besides the wiring harness work, what else are you modifying to make this work? 2) Did you get t...

Re: Adding a battery charger connection inside the fuel filler door

Electrically, I don't know enough to add any comment of value, but from a design/packaging point of view, this sounds like a really clean solution. The only possible concern I can come up with: is there any concern with fuel vapor in close proximity to the electrical plug? Otherwise, this seems like...

Re: My quest for the ultimate driving machine...

Thanks Gaz, Good to hear from you again. I love seeing what you are doing as well as I think we are on a similar page as far as what we want from our cars. I am especially excited to see how your Haltech installation goes. I agree, a modern ECU opens up a number of possibilities for a better driving...

Thanks Shipper! It is still a slow process, but I am working my way through things as time allows. Still a ways to go before reassembly starts. I wanted to add some links (for other's reference, as well as my own) that have been very helpful to me in understanding the details of how things are assem...

Re: LSD Help

Thanks for the reply, but I see my question wasn't very clear. I meant what sort of lsd is in the stock M635?

I'm just confused by the different types, how they compare and what makes one type better than the other.

Again, sorry for the hand holding.

Re: LSD Help

Jose, Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. That is helpful in explaining the difference between an LSD versus the Quaife torque biasing. What I am not clear on is the following: 1) What is in the stock diff of an M635? 2) Are the OS Gikan and Drexler LSDs that you can vary the % of lock...

Re: LSD Help

Bringing this one back from the dead.

I need some help understanding LSDs. How does the stock diff in the M635 differ from a Quaife diff, as well as an OS Giken or Drexler diff (or the Wavetec mentioned above)? Any feedback on how any of the diffs perform would be appreciated too.

Thanks,

Eric

Good progress. It was certainly time for some new exhaust pieces. Looking forward to hearing how pulling the current header off goes. I got mine off, but had also dropped the front cross member due to planned work on the suspension, and it was still a bit of work getting them off. I had to remove th...

This is interesting, how did you decide on the Emtron system rather than Haltech or other options? Looking forward to hearing more details on this. I'd like to do a stand alone system as well.

Got my shims in! If any of them are used, I can't tell. They all look new to me, but I am the first to admit I am no expert so maybe they are all used. Anyway, I am pretty pumped. I should be ready for whatever needs arise. I have shims ranging from 2.85 ~ 4.30mm,in 0.05 increments, multiples of eac...

The wheels look to be Alpina and the badges on the back say Alpina, but that's all we know at this point. Get the guy to send pics of the interior (seats, gauge cluster and dash), engine and vin plate. For that price, lack of pics and lack of any detail, I am guessing this is not an Alpina, but you ...

Re: Usual Suspects for Starter Not Cranking

I am not an expert, but if your other electrical components were working and you were able to short out and force the starter to turn over enough to get the car started, then I'd say your battery is fine and the issue is in the starter solenoid. Not sure how, or if, you can refurbish at home, but yo...

Engine Oil Pump

I have the oil pan off of my M88 (~80k miles). I plan to install a new sprocket and chain, and shim the oil pump down to achieve proper tension on the chain. So I have a few questions: 1) When pushing on the oil pump chain, what is considered an acceptable amount of movement before the chain becomes...
