Re: Close Call, Just Lucky. or Neither

Yes, BMW engineers do not want you to use an old school (battery charger). the Battery Tender type of device are low amp. trickle chargers that are designed to maintain, not overcharge a battery. I have 7 of them connected to various vehicles with great results, even a Scooter.

Re: Power steering pump misbehavior

What would cause cavitation in the pump? Would this possibly cause occasional loss of power steer. at idle?

Re: mud flaps

Whenever I take the car out, I end up with crap, or chipped paint on either the lip of the front fenders (aft of the tires), or the side of the car.

mud flaps

I am looking to install mud flaps to the front fenders of my M6. Anyone know of a source? Could I use a pair meant for a 740i or other model?

Re: Jays BMW Parts

No, no noise. sometimes, especially when the car is on an angle side to side and at idle, power steering is interrupted.

Re: Jays BMW Parts

Hi Jay. the power steering pump on my '88 M6 is not leaking but may not be creating enough pressure (sometimes there is no power). Can your service improve this?

Re: SRS module

Thanks, I will check it out. My SRS light is on, I am trying to decide if checking connections on the module will serve to extinguish the light (after battery disconnect), or if I can subvert the system with a module disconnect. I figure that the airbag may now be inoperative or even dangerous at 35...

SRS module

What is the location of the SRS module on a 1988 U.S M6? Various articles place it either under the driver's side dash or glove box. Possible confusion may be left or right hand drive. Will disconnecting it turn off airbag light?

Aluminum bumper clean

How do I clean/refinish the aluminum bumpers on my '88 M6? Do I just use a compound and rub? Is there a clearcoat on the surface? Do I use fine grit sandpaper?

Re: SRS light

I read that the 2 orange sensors on front fenders should be disconnected after disconnecting the neg. battery cable to attempt to reset the system. The article does not mention whether one should reconnect the sensors or not. Do you know?

SRS light

My SRS light came on and will not go off on my '88 M6. I would like to either disable the system, or, atleast, turn off the light. I am thinking that the 35 year old air bag is non-functional at this point. Any hints?

Re: Hard steering

Yes, symptom appears, especially, when I pull into my sloped driveway. I shift to reverse and there is no power steering until I wait a few seconds or give a little gas. A few days ago, I had no power steering after slowing for a turn.

I have no screeching or other noise. I have "rebuilt" the power steering pump to stop a leak. Symptom only appears with engine at idle.

Re: Hard steering

Yes, fluid level is fine. Also, there is no problem with braking, only hard steering at rest. I am wondering if it could be the power flow regulator above the brake bomb or the pressure switches.

Hard steering

Interesting occasional malady of my 1988 U.S. M6: I lose power steering when I brake hard (foot off accelerator), especially if the car is on a side to side slope. This symptom has persisted for a couple of years. Last year I changed the "brake bomb" - made no difference. I recently change...
