Re: Programa SI Board Install Issues

Thanks, I finally got the cluster back out and soldered a wire to the ribbon cable pin. Grounded it to the steering lock lever voila, it reset. Back to 4 greens, and no lights on when driving!

Re: Programa SI Board Install Issues

Dmckim,

When you grounded the pins, were you able to do it without taking the cluster apart? If yes, where did you establish a ground at?

I see the pin called out by the programa instructions, but want to make it a routine job.

Thanks.

Re: Progama SI Board: Oil service and Inspection lights will not reset

Thanks for the question. I put a Programa SI board in to deal with the previous board issue with the leaking NiCd batteries. As it was a new board, it worked great in all areas, and as it ticked down to oil change time, more lights would come on, and turn off just like they are supposed to. Then whe...

Progama SI Board: Oil service and Inspection lights will not reset

1984 E24 633csi. It has a Programa battery-less SI board, and all the real time functions work fine, but I cannot reset the oil service and inspection lights. I grounded pin 7 many different ways, and even bought the old Bav auto tool to do it for me, but whatever I try does not turn off those annoy...

Re: 1984 633CSI with chipped 0261-200-008 hesitates above 75F

Thanks for the suggestion. I have not yet tried the chipped ECU with the stock chip that it came with.... that will tell decisively if it a chip prob or not. Maybe this weekend! The cap, plug wires, rotor, & plugs are new as of ~1500 miles ago... Coil is original though, so probably worth updati...

1984 633CSI with chipped 0261-200-008 hesitates above 75F

1984 633CSI 5 spd is showing an odd problem when I try to use the chipped ECU above 75F. With the standard 0261-200-008 ECU, there are no issues at all that I am aware of, regardless of ambient air temperature. Idle is good. Acceleration is smooth. When I swap in the rare 0261-200-008 ECU with the c...

Looking for Euro bumper “L” Brackets

I have the Euro bumper in the garage, but cannot find the “L” brackets... They are part number 51111909273 and 51111909274.

Anybody have these?

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

I also changed out the fan control switch in the panel, and now both fans are variable again. I tried soldering in a new transistor (a bigger one), but I did a crappy soldering job in the small space, so I moved to another switch I had and just changed out the broken connector with a new Cherry and ...

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

Problem SOLVED: I put a rebuilt main circuit board in that a fellow in the Netherlands was selling and voila - the car now turns off with the key. The right turn signal panel light work also now.

And now on to fix the fan blower switch that runs on high only for heat or AC.

Whoops, on that last post I was referencing if the 1982 528e automatic instrument cluster would work in the 1984 (not 1983) 633csi 5 speed.

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

Well, I took the cluster out again, and put in a new light switch and a new old speedometer with good gears, and the left instrument light started working, and so did the speedometer, so that is 1 1/2 victories. If I turn the dimmer up to high then fuse 23 still blows, so the right side of the light...

The plug with jumper like pins on the speedometer back

Does anyone know what the little plug with two 1/2 inch pinch coming out of it is? I have a 1984 633CSI and it is on the back of the speedometer? Is it a fused jumper of some kind?

I Ohmed it, and it is not bridged.

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

The correct main relay let the car start just fine, but still will not shut off. As I think Brucey mentioned, I must have something backfeeding into the wire on terminal 86. That will be a PITA to find. I am going back to figuring out why I blow fuse 23 when I try to get illumination from the dashli...

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

Troubleshooting still.... It looks like I read the wrong terminal on the 5 prong relay... I think I have the wrong main and a bad relay. The ignition is turning on what the relay thinks is terminal 30, when in fact it wanted to turn on terminal 86, which is supposed to be the terminal to the left of...

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

So, I had the wrong relay in the main relay... it was not the dual output kind. Terminal 30 and 68 were reversed, so the car would run, but never shut off.... Bottom line is I have no voltage to terminal 68. Another new iggy did not make a difference, so am thinking that the ECU is to blame now. Wha...

You guys sure know your stuff.. and I get more ideas just by thinking on these scenarios. I will experiment with both of these ideas tomorrow (Friday) when I get back to the garage..if that fuse 21 thing works, at least I'll have a way of turning it off - not a great way, but maybe better than stall...

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

So, I was reading the ETM and it looked like I could disable the OBC by pulling fuse 12. I did, and she started right up, but would not shut off, so I learned that their is an issue with the OBC stopping the spark, and I still do not know how to turn off the car, as it would not turn off again. Bett...

Re: 1984 633CSI - Cannot shut of the engine.

I think what I was thought was the OBC is in fact also called the OBC relay. The square box up under the left footwell with the two multi-pin connectors and the internal fuse that blows if we do not take out fuse 21 when jump starting is actually the OBC, as well as the OBC relay. The OBC display is...
