Re: m88/3 valve clearance adjust
being on the road I don't have my notes with me. but as far as I remember one exhaust valve had a clearance of 12mm. the other valve on the same cylinder (4 or 5) was at .19mm. original shim on the 12mm clearance one was 3.45mm which I replaced by a 3.25mm one to get a clearance of .29mm. can't figu...

Re: m88/3 valve clearance adjust
i just finished mine clearances with the engine around 130000km (m635csi 1985) the clearances were quite off -- all were less than the .30mm spec! Anywhere from .28mm to .12mm. most of the lower figures were with the exhaust valves. could have something to do with the unleaded fuel used without an l...

Re: adjusting e24 euro headlights
ok I see. i'll do it as you say.
on the 'm' it can't be done with the engine running to save the battery. the airbox/afm has to be remove together with the windshield washer bottle.

Re: adjusting e24 euro headlights
I had done a search but didn't come up with an answer.
I just want to know on the outer low beam lights which plastic knob does the vertical movement (up/down) and which the lateral movement (left/right).
no mention in the owner's handbook.

adjusting e24 euro headlights

Re: adjusting valve clearances m88/3

Re: adjusting valve clearances m88/3
today, between bending over, checking clearances, removing shims, shim thickness, installing shims, rechecking clearnaces, I finally finished 18 valves. the brake cleaner worked miracles. sometime the shim just popped out when using the valve bucket 'tool'. 6 more to go on the intake side! is the m8...

Re: adjusting valve clearances m88/3
today I tried out the brake cleaner and I got two shims out without any difficulty. I protected the area around the two valves with paper towel to absorb the excess cleaner. I used an aerosol air can for cleaning photo negatives to release the shim and a magnet to pull it out from under the cam lobe...

adjusting valve clearances m88/3
hi everyone, i've been trying to redo the valve clearances on my m88/3. i've succeeded in doing seven and there are still 17 to go! the problem i'm encountering is that i can't get the shim to pop up even with a squirt of compressed air. the shim turns freely in the cup but the engine oil is holding...

m88/3 valve clearance adjust
hi, i've decided to do the valve clearances on my m88/3 engine, having got hold of the m88/3 valve tool. is there a special precedure to follow? bmw lists the valve clearances for both exhaust/intake at .30 to .35mm. should i set everything up at .30mm clearance or should I open up the exhaust clear...

the behr rad in my 'm' broke at the top hose plastic attachment point. i replaced it with a wizard unit and since then no future leakage problems as the plastic 'tanks' are in aluminium. everything is superbely welded -- like a work of art! for the little driving i've done since the installation eng...

well, the problems has been resolved. a piece of forgotten paper towel had sucked its way into one of the throttles and got stuck. the throttle couldn't close completely giving the high idle. the paper towel must have found it way into the air box. i had checked but didn't notice anything. everythin...

hi, i thought maybe something to do with the throttle not closing fully. i have a lot of slack in the accelerator cable which i didn't have before. i had taken off the air box to change the coolant hoses that run under the throttle bodies. maybe when re installing the air box some of the rubber gask...

sudden high idle 3500rpm (resolved)
hi, today as i was going of the lights and pulled the car forcely through its gears when stopping at the next lights the idle would not come down and it would stay at 3500rpm. i in the beginning i thought it might be a sticky accelerator cable or jammed throttles but on this side everything was ok. ...

hi guys, got the radiator out in 30mins. didn't have to remove the hood. the only problem encountered was how to flush the coolant. the behr radiator did not have an outlet screw at the bottom. as everything was out i decided to also change the water pump. the pump was quite easy to remove -- had to...
