Ignition Switch
Hi everyone Been a while since I posted on here. 6 has been going really well, up until the other day when it was nicely warmed up and it wouldn't start. I've checked everything (starter, relays etc) and managed to isolate it down to the ignition switch, part number according to RealOEM is 613213771...

Re: G265 Shifter Arm Orientation
Yes, I'm in the process of rebuilding the shifter at the moment - new bushes, shift knuckle, console mounts etc mounts and i'm also putting in a Z3 short shifter. Found a wealth of info on here about how to do it. I've also replaced the various gearbox seals and will be throwing in a new clutch, sla...

G265 Shifter Arm Orientation
Hi All Further to my facepalm moment with the steel console for the G265 gearbox, i'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as to the orientation of the shift knuckle and shifter arm. Realoem would have me putting it on the left hand side..... Neither of these bits were on the box when ...

Re: G265 Sheet Metal Shifter looks weird
Thanks fellas. Yes, I already have the small mounting blocks and all the other bits. My problem is I have no holes in the sheet metal shifter to mount the small blocks too (i.e. the vertical ones). I've added some more photos so you can get a better idea of what i'm referring to. IMG_20190908_094131...

G265 Sheet Metal Shifter looks weird
Hi everyone Managed to source a Getrag 265/6 box to do the manual swap in the 635csi and i'm struggling to see how the gear linkage attaches to the gearbox. Its the sheet metal type and looks like its missing the wings on the bottom??? I've attached a photo. rsz_img_20190907_133335.jpg The only thin...

Re: E34 540i Brake Upgrade
Finally got the brakes on the car sorted. The booster was leaking at both ends and the rear calipers were retaining air for some reason. A big shout out to Jay Stratton for his help with a new rebuilt booster. I tried to get several places here in NZ to get someone to look at it and they all turned ...

Re: E34 540i Brake Upgrade
So I finally got round to replacing the MC with the 750i one and putting the new discs and rebuilt calipers on with new pads. They look great, however I can't help but think the brake pedal travel is just a little bit much. I bled the MC before installing it and have bled the brakes about 4 times al...

Re: E34 540i Brake Upgrade
Hi Greg I found the rear calipers and carriers on a wrecked car here in Christchurch. That left the fronts. After an exhausting search on google and ringing just about every wrecker in NZ with no luck, I ended up biting the bullet and got the front calipers and carriers from Australia. The easiest b...

Manual Conversion - Shifter Mount Question
Hi everyone I've searched a bit to try and find an answer on this one but to no avail so far. We have an 86 635csi and we're doing a manual conversion on it. The box we've acquired is a G265/6 with the sheet metal shifter and thanks to some great info on here, I'll be rebuilding it and making a few ...

Manual Conversion using a 528i Donor
Hi everyone I'm hoping to get a little bit of advice in relation to our auto to manual swap. I've got the opportunity to purchase an 85 528i manual to use as the donor vehicle for our 86 635csi. What I can't figure out is what gearbox the car is running. Its got a build date of May 1985 and the last...

Re: E34 540i Brake Upgrade
Thanks, have ordered the E32 MC so will get that put on as part of the upgrade. Finally pulled the calipers etc apart this week, all off to the powder coater now :D I've received all the new rotors, bolts , pads etc. :D can't wait to get stuck into this! Just had a thought though, before I start cha...

E34 540i Brake Upgrade
Hi all I'm looking at doing this upgrade on both the front and rear brakes in our car and was wondering if we have to replace the master cylinder with the E34 one as well? I've got the carriers and calipers but not a MC yet, I was planning on keeping the original MC and having it reconditioned..... ...

Trans Selection Dash Lights
Hi everyone This should be an easy one but I can't find the answer anywhere. We have an 86 635csi with the EH transmission and I noticed that when in Drive and "E" mode, the green D light on the dash lights up - well most of the time, sometimes its there, others its not. When I put it into...

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Setup
Can you please point me in the right direction for where the spare tapped port on the oil filter housing is?
This must be the one Brucey was referring to and is the one i'd prefer to use for a new gauge.
Thanks

Oil Pressure Gauge Setup
Hi Everyone I realise this topic has been covered quite a bit but I want to install an oil pressure gauge in our car and couldn't find the answer to my question. I found a post from Brucey that mentioned a setup under the hood around the oil filter was the place to get the best reading. I was wonder...

Preventing Coolant in the Trans

I've heard a few horror stories about how this can happen and it fries the transmission. I'm wondering how often this actually occurs? I know there was ...

86 EH Auto Delayed Shifting
Hi everyone Took the car for a nice long drive this weekend, approx 1,000 km's all up. Car went like a dream apart from one issue that I've noticed. Its an 86 Euro 635csi with the EH Auto. What happens is i'll accelerate up to 100km/hr and the transmission will work perfectly. Smoothly shifts up thr...

Re: Weird engine surge on overrun
So an update on this issue. I noticed the car was only doing this when it had warmed up. Replaced the following and the car was still doing it: Idle Control Valve Air Flow Meter Coolant Temp Sensor Tested the TPS and all ok Replaced a few collapsed vacuum hoses Eliminated a few small vacuum leaks Te...
