Re: Relay madness
Finally got an opportunity to go out back and take a look. Mine looks like yours, except reversed, and a lot more dust. Big silver is closest to the firewall. I'll try to upload my crappy phone pic soon, it's time for dinner. I was incorrect about my car though, it is a 12/82 build date, 725687 are ...

Re: Relay madness
I'll try to look at my '83 tomorrow. Can't guarantee anything, I work too much! It was built in 10/82, might be close enough to garner some information. Toph (Colorado 6'ers, too cool!)

Re: M6 / M635 Diff Housing
Ian, Would it be possible to obtain a picture of the rusted webbing? I can't imagine a cast iron diff with rust of a nature to compromise the structural integrity of the casting. Removal and media blasting would be my actions to further assess the situation; I seriously doubt that you have any issue...

Re: Wiring a headlight buzzer
If I understand you correctly, you are very close. Terminal 87 is only continuous with 30 when the relay is not activated. With the parking lamps on 86, that should give you 12VDC to one end of the coil while they are on. The door switch, connected to 30 is OK, but you could just give it a good grou...

Re: Wiring a headlight buzzer
Sounds simple enough. Terminals 85 and 86 are the field coil ends that cause the relay to switch. If one of these is a hot wire from the headlamps (assuming no diode) with the ignition off, and the other is a ground, you will have your 'switch'. Terminals 30 and 87a will be continuous when the relay...

Re: What do you think the best looking rims are for the shark?
I reiterate, 17 inch Style 5's are my premier choice. Bilstein sports with Eibach lowering springs have been my choice for many years. Still have a box of brand new Eibachs available for what I have into them. Toph

Re: Wiring a headlight buzzer
Depending upon where you obtain your relay, take a close look at the diagram on the side of the relay housing. Some of these relays are designed for very specific applications and have a diode built in to the circuitry of the coil function. It will be between terminals 85 and 86, a little triangle w...

In the days when my wallet was visibly much thinner, I purchased a set of Kumho SPTs. I was quite impressed with them until my LSD ate them. They were ridiculously inexpensive ten years ago as compared to the big name brands. Toph

You can try any of these, on the phone first, to explain your issue. Maybe see if you can get a helpful and positive response. Toph

My steering box mounting is still in good condition, yet I have always wanted to do this mod. Now that it seems that the components may not be available, I will be contacting Ed very soon. Thanks for the 'Heads Up'! Toph

Re: 1979 633csi emissions without thermal reactors
If I'm not mistaken, your car will qualify for the 'Collectors' license plate here in Colorado. You should be able to take it to one of the few remaining emissions stations for older cars and have it tested. These guys are few and far between, but generally very workable, wink-wink, as far as obtain...

Re: hard to diagnose brake issue
Nut,
When you found the front caliper had increased 40C, by chance did you record any temperature change in the opposing rear caliper as well? If not, this should rule out the master cylinder as the culprit. Interesting issue, you have my mind tumbling. Toph

The Eibach springs are identical as well. The box specified E24 or E28, but the part number was the same. Toph

Are these the same springs that you were looking for in 2011? If so, I've still got my set of Eibachs, brand new in the box, for $260.00 + freight. Toph

Rainer,
You have probably already seen this; it's from an '83. http://shark.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/e24/e24_83.pdf
This shows a green wire from the ignition switch going to the primary side of the coil. Hope that this helps! Toph

Denver 6ers, free front spoiler!
Don't get too excited. I have a pretty rough front spoiler with a horizontal split that must go away. The wife and I are 'relocating' within the Denver metro area and she wants me to cull out some of my treasured stuff. It was on my car for two years, as is. It can certainly be repaired by any compe...

Crazy glue? Are you crazy? Just kidding around!!! If the door seals are physically torn yes, you will need to replace them eventually. If they are just in really bad shape and hanging where they shouldn't be, they can be re-glued. There is a couple of 3M products that will serve you well. They make ...

You might want to consider applying some white lithium grease to your latching mechanisms internal friction areas. WD40, although very useful, will dry leaving a sticky residue. It's a 'catch 22' product; it will clean and lubricate, but after a period of time you'll need to re-apply. This is why ev...
