Re: Brake pedal randomly goes to the floor

All else staying the same, the effect of an increase in bore will be that you need to press the brake pedal harder to achieve the same braking pressure in the lines, but pedal travel will bit less. You are exactly right there, and that is the effect I was going after anyway. I much prefer braking b...

Re: Brake pedal randomly goes to the floor

So, to update and complete the story, I did end up ordering the bigger bore E32 735/750 master cylinder a couple weeks ago and installed last weekend. The difference in feel is staggering: I hadn't noticed this much before, but in the last couple months of driving, it became increasingly obvious tha...

Re: Brake pedal randomly goes to the floor

So regarding slightly sticky calipers, I feel like I've heard/otherwise noticed some veerrry slight brake dragging over the last couple years, but I just thought it was the piston seals on the calipers (which are quite worn and in need of a refresh). I'm surprised I only get this issue after the eng...

Brake pedal randomly goes to the floor

Hi all, I've got quite the odd problem now. Over the last few months I've noticed some very rare and strange behavior with my brakes that I can't begin to diagnose or find other people with similar issues. The issue being very concerning brake pedal behavior, where out of the blue after working perf...

Oh, I meant that I sent an email to the seller. Unfortunately I don't have a set of headlight wipers

Re: SLS height adjustment

The lever arm that clamps to the sway bar should be a U-shaped clamp secured by 2 10mm nuts, or at least that's how mine is set up. Loosening only one will allow you to rotate the arm to the desired position, though slight persuasion with a hammer or rubber mallet will make life easier. Just don't b...

Re: SLS height adjustment

In my time running the SLS system lowered (I think somewhere around 2 years now), I haven't had issues with any part of the system (accumulators, dampers, pump). Given that the system should be designed to cope with the much higher pressures to counter heavy loads, I can't imagine it should be damag...

Re: Belt sizes for '88 w/m30b35?

I would trust engine documentation listed under the E34 more than the E24 for post-6/87 cars just to avoid any potential mislabeling between websites and documents and whatnot. At least, that's what I've started doing personally. Worst case though, 10-20mm difference shouldn't be an issue if you can...

Re: Tire Size Combination

Thank you for the definitive answer! I'm sure it's been discussed before, but I haven't seen as clear/concise info in all my searching yet. I agree about sidewall height, I want as much as I can to get back some comfort and to make the wheels look smaller and less like huge "pimp" wheels o...

Re: Tire Size Combination

I've got a question for the braintrust here. At the end of the coming summer, I plan to finish restoring my RC090s and put some nice rubber on them. Currently I'm running 225/50/15 on the stock 15x7 ET20 style 5s (I know, the tires are slightly undersized, speedo is slightly off). I've been convince...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Been a bit busy with life and all lately, but things have been happening! I have photo albums of the work I've been doing lately, which recently includes a couple 800+ mile trips, replacing the starter, and progress on refinishing some RC090s. For anyone interested in seeing pictures, I have some ph...

Re: Starter motor options

Well, it went in, but not without a fight \:D/ I was taking a step into the dark doing this upgrade, as I haven't seen any documentation on people actually mating the SR444X to an M30. Here are my findings. The solenoid is clocked differently than the regular, being perpendicular to the mounting tab...

Re: What do you think the best looking rims are for the shark?

Does someone know if BBS RS 17" barrels would fit on Style 5 BBS RC090 centers? I can get locally staggered set of BBS RS 17x8.5 and 17x10 but centers are wrong offset and bolt pattern, so was thinking to swap the centers with Style 5 RC090, but not sure if that would fit together? I don't hav...

Got the RC090s completely dismantled and took the centers in to get painted! Getting a slightly deeper gold than what I have currently, and I have high hopes for the results. We'll see this weekend! I'll also be stripping the black paint on the lips and beginning to sand/polish those over the coming...

Re: Cheap gasoline..

When I filled up a week ago, it was $2.24/gallon for no-ethanol 91. Prices have been dropping like a rock for the past month. Mercifully, too, since I have another 900 mile trip coming up in just over a week

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Changed out the battery and did an oil change this weekend! And I did something I should've done last time I had the valve cover off in June: clean, Loctite, and properly torque the oil spray bar banjo bolts (I did to about 65in-lb, around 7Nm). While it was on the lift, I checked all the bolts on t...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

I had a pretty good day at the salvage yard yesterday and today.. I'll start with the smallest pleasures. I found a couple interesting items in various BMWs around the lot. First, a velcro sticker explaining how to stow 3 golf clubs in your Ultimate Driving Machine's boot :P The other being a nifty ...

Re: how many 635's have you encounter? (Encountered)

A bit late with this one, but I spotted an '85 Euro-spec 635 taking the same route as me in evening rush hour a bit over a month ago. Looked super clean inside and out, but wasn't the biggest fan of the choice of wheels. But who am I to judge when there are so few of us? We ended up stopped on the s...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

I'm always late to post my updates, but this past weekend I did my engine and transmission fluid services! What tranny fluid did you use? I used some off-the-shelf STP Multi-Purpose DexII/III. It was something like $23 for a gallon, and so far it's been quite alright. I'd like to know how different...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Gave mine a much needed wash and wax on Sunday. Next time will probably be in over a month due to my hectic fall schedule, so I hope the wax doesn't get washed away too quickly  Next time I beautify the car, I plan to go a bit crazy and spend a couple days doing it. In addition to the wash/wax...

Might not be my (or many people's) cup of tea, but it's impossible to argue that the work was done poorly. It's all top-notch and looks like it could've come from the factory like that, aside from the velcro felt covering the shifter pattern #-o

Re: Transmission Fluid Opinions

I recently did a fluid drain on my autobox as well, and I just used some bog standard STP Dex III ATF. From all the digging and reading of various forums, I found the general consensus to be that you don't gain much from crazy additives or even name brand vs generic brands due to the Dexron/Mercon c...

I'm always late to post my updates, but this past weekend I did my engine and transmission fluid services! Engine went smooth, especially since I had it on a professional lift. Did my normal service (4qts Valvoline 20w-50 VR1, 1qt Lucas Heavy Duty oil stabilizer, STP S2965A filter). I normally chang...
