Re: Cool in AZ now, no heat in e24
So I finally got a break from work to do some diagnostic work. It appears that I have 12V present full time at the valve, which keeps the valve closed apparently (no heat). I say I have it full time, because regardless of where I set the temperature knob, I have 12V. If I pull the connector to the v...

Cool in AZ now, no heat in e24
Since it was leaking, I replaced the heat control valve over the summer which was original one to the car, but never had the enthusiasm to test it since it was 110-115 here this summer. It has since cooled down and I finally tested it only to find out there is no heat. The new valve is an original B...

Speedometer only reads to 72 MPH?
I recently relocated from Southern California to Phoenix, AZ and drove my e24 over. The trip was uneventful and the car ran great, but I noticed that the speedometer will only indicate up to about 72 MPH no matter how much faster I went. Everything else related to the speedo works, and the speed sen...

Re: Starter is not starting car with key.
I'd suspect the ignition switch, and least that is what it was on my '83. Not alot of fun to replace as you have to drill out the "security" screws to get it out; otherwise it is straightforward.
Best of luck!

Re: New electrical gremlin
Ok, so replacement of the OBC module has brought some sanity. No more phantom beeps or killing the engine; however the 12 button OBC inside still doesn't work. I tried another one that was known good and it didn't work either. Since there doesn't seem to have been an OBC relay in 1983, I don't know ...

Re: New electrical gremlin
Thanks Tim, but I think my car is old enough not to have any of what I am seeing in your picture. That is probably why I couldn't find C2 in any of the pages of the ETM for an '83.

Re: ECU and OBC
Tim - I have looked and am not finding the OBC relay. Is there another name that is used? Where is it located?
Thank you,
Scott

Re: New electrical gremlin
Gentlemen, Where can I locate C2? I don't see it on the electrical schematic and don't know what to look for under the drivers side (left) kneepad. Also where is the OBC relay? The weirdness continues with random "beeps" and now the OBC display came on with some of the LEDs lighting for 30...

Re: left turn signal won't reset
I had the same thing. I fixed mine by first removing the steering column lower cover then loosening the screws for the turn signal switch and moving it around. There was just enough slop in the holes to be able to make the switch cancel . If the switch cancel arm is broken you need a new switch.

Re: New electrical gremlin
Hi Tm, Thank you for your reply. With my car, the engine was only shut off once (at idle) after the "beep" which I assume is what you indicated is supposed to happen due to the immobilizer function. Other times though it never prevented the engine from starting or running, but I can expect...

Re: New electrical gremlin
Hi Phil,
I can hear the siren horn (under the hood) and what sounds like a chime which sounds like it is coming from inside the car. They both are short and both seemingly go off together. Completely random and will happen with the engine running or not.
Strangest thing I have ever seen.

ECU and OBC
Question: Is any part of the OBC controlled by the ECU - or vice versa?
Thanks,

Re: New electrical gremlin
New wrinkle - car was sitting in the driveway not running and unlocked and "chirped" once all by itself. This is getting weird.

Re: New electrical gremlin
Hi Ralph, Thanks for your reply. My '83 OBC does have the ability to set and require a code before it will start, but I am not sure if the antitheft and alarm are part of it. You are correct that when the OBC failed it did default to being able to start the car. Other than replacing the OBC, I'm not...

Re: HVAC problems all of a sudden
Marc was correct - it was a blown fuse that I missed when checking the first time. Why it blew is a little concerning?
Thanks for the help guys.

I think I would start with the Main and Fuel pump relays. Both can leave you stranded -
Good luck!

New electrical gremlin
Strange things going on with my e24: First the OBC decides to quit - no apparent power, nothing on it lights up; no display, no LEDs, nothing. Next the alarm "chirps" randomly - one time it chirped and killed the engine while idling, but I was able to restart it. Is there some anti-theft m...
