Re: Heater temperature
Might as well try bleeding since it is far less involved than swapping the thermostat. If you've personally never bled the system, there's a screw on top of the thermostat housing that make this a relatively painless process. However it's likely the t-stat. I recently resolved the same issue by repl...

Re: Blower Replacement with Bosch
rod635, that's the blower motor that I used in my car ('84 633) and it works great. Use the boiling water trick to get the fans off, and don't forget to mark their alignment prior to removal so everything stays balanced on re-assembly. Done! Not sure how I've missed this post over the last 2 months...better late than never.
Thanks for your efforts to keep the site alive! I couldn't keep my '84 rolling along without the help here.

Re: New Member - Just bought a M6 across the country
As part of my job I occasionally schedule cars in/out of my workplace, and generally speaking if you request enclosed transport the attention to detail by the driver is much higher, so you will not have as many issues as you will with an open carrier. If the sketchy stories you've heard are related ...

Re: Matthewdesigns jumps in the deep end / 633CSi
Swapped the thermostat this weekend as the weather was pretty mild. Had a bit of confusion regarding which part it actually required (early or late style), but Brucey came to the rescue after I resurrected a thread discussing the specific t-stat housing I have. It is marked 3.1, rather than 4.1 or 4...

Re: Thermostat housing stamped 3.1? Which stat do I need?
Alrighty, so I installed the Stant 13558 I had previously purchased, which looked relatively similar to the OEM early t-stat PN 11531254065 that Brucey listed above (but not exactly the same). Which is neither the one that RealOEM says is right, nor the one which comes up as correct on the ECS and N...

Re: Thermostat housing stamped 3.1? Which stat do I need?
bpoliakoff, thanks for the notes on the weep hole. I have in the past drilled a hole in thermostats for other vehicles, but this is my first venture into the E24 cooling system and I didn't want to screw anything up! Brucey, that depth measurement is exactly the nugget of info with which I was hopin...

Re: Thermostat housing stamped 3.1? Which stat do I need?
Bringing this one up from the dead as I'm on the same quest. I also have this elusive housing stamped 3.1. Google searching for that number on a BMW t-stat housing turn up.....this thread and nothing else BMW-specific. Production date on my VIN tag is 11/83. Four years later, anyone have any new tho...

Re: Need Help with Getrag 265 Measurements
Hope this helps! Looks like the pilot bearing stub is about 23mm long, depending on where you start and end. Not including the bullnosed end of the stub. The splined portion of the input shaft is about 46mm, starting at the TOB sleeve and ending at the slight chamfer on the end of the splines. The p...

Google Image search says "No other sizes of this image found." Do you know of this site? https://rasterbator.net/. You can blow up any image to poster size using that site's rasterizing function. It is a cheap way to print a huge version of an image as it utilizes standard printer pa...

Does a 260/5 bolt up using the same clutch/TOB/pilot bearing? If so I have one of those lying about and I can grab measurements from it.

Re: Matthewdesigns jumps in the deep end / 633CSi
MrE thank you for the kudos! GRNSHRK I'm happy to share the process. I'll admit up front that I skipped a couple of steps that would have made this a more complete restoration of the kidneys, but nothing that can't be revisited in the future. After reshaping the metal I used a handheld flat lap with...

Re: Matthewdesigns jumps in the deep end / 633CSi
Forgot something! Also repaired the kidneys one day this summer. Both were dented right in the center, figured they can't be terribly thick so I pulled them out and took a chance on straightening them. Turned out great. Before: 20180516_194322.jpg One down: 20180904_171642.jpg Both polished and back...

Re: Matthewdesigns jumps in the deep end / 633CSi
Hi folks, thought I'd update with another few pics. I still have not touched the transmission swap as I continued to chase down little fuel issues over the summer, as well as building a garage, which took up most of my time/mad money. I had been contemplating reupholstering the front seats (E30 spor...

Thanks Toph, I appreciate the continuing bits of info. No rush over here, and greatly appreciated. So far the battery has not drained out again, and nothing has melted, so I"m starting to relax a bit haha. I did manage to get my hands on an e28 Bentley manual this weekend so I'm hoping there wi...

Re: Matthewdesigns jumps in the deep end / 633CSi
Random update: Winter has slowed me down a bit on the project but my enthusiasm has recently been buoyed by the resolution (hopefully) of a battery drain problem. Have another thread on it (Relay Madness) and it may be cured at this point. My trans has been blocked out of 5th gear since I bought the...

Re: Relay madness
Thanks Toph! Nice to see another Coloradan here. Tom, per your earlier post, the large rectangular relay is for the purge, but it is a 4 pin. Either way, removing the black relay and replacing it with the other type *seems* to have cured the battery drain. I let the car sit for 4 days and it fired r...

Re: Relay madness
Tom: Thanks for the info on the large rectangular relay, that checks one off the list for me. I'm still curious as to why I don't see a mention of another 5 pin relay in that area; descriptions seem to point to only (1) five pin and (2) four pin relays. Will keep poking around online and see what tu...

Relay madness
Hi All, In the midst of trying to track down a battery drain problem I have run across a relay that stays energized when the ignition is off/key out. [Big drain, kills the battery in 2-4 days depending on the temperatures.] The relay would click off when I pulled the positive battery lead and that's...

If this ^^^ doesn't work out, contact a local driveline service shop for a quote. We have driveshafts strengthened and rebalanced for our customers at a local shop for about $250, and this includes replacement of an entire u-joint on one end.

Re: Matthewdesigns jumps in the deep end / 633CSi
Found another fuel leak. Both my favorite and least favorite issue to discover on a project vehicle! On Monday I filled the tank to the brim for the first time since purchasing the car, drove home, parked it, came out half an hour later to find a puddle of gas in the street. A big puddle, as long as...
