Flat Tire Without a Cause
Sunday morning found the left rear tire completely flat. No air. When I last drove the car three weeks ago it was fine. Filled it with air this morning and drove it to my local repair shop for removal and inspection. Careful scan of the tread and sidewall found no damage.Immersed it in the tire tub ...

Re: Oil Pressure Warning Light
I decided to take the car out for a ride yesterday. It had been sitting in the garage for about a month. It was one more test before tackling the issue. The engine started and the oil pressure light turned instantly off. I’m pleasantly surprised and glad the problem cured itself.

Oil Pressure Warning Light
The oil pressure warning light goes on and stays on for about 30 seconds when starting the car. It only happens with the initial start after the car has sat for a couple of weeks. Once warm it stays off. The garage is pretty cool so I'm just thinking it's just the result of cold oil not flowing well...

Re: Close Call, Just Lucky. or Neither
I believe the owner's manual recommendation is because the bulk chargers of the time, 1989, dumped high voltage and amperage into the electrical system. It's the same reason the manual recommends pulling three fuses before jump starting the car.

Close Call, Just Lucky. or Neither
I keep my car tethered to a CTEK battery charger while in the garage. I've been doing that for years because there are sometime many months between driving the E24. I've always kept the battery connected while using the charger. But, as I found out, that is not what BMW in the owners manual and in t...

Re: New Source of BBS Style Wheels
Four wheels cost roughly $1200 including shipping. I can never figure out how to post pictures to this site but below is the link on their site showing the wheels I bought. There's also a link to the other wheel choices. I received the wheels less than a week after purchase. https://www.daremotorspo...

No, I used Real OEM, and found a list of about 10 connectors under engine electrical. I tried them all and none worked.

Coolant reservoir connector
I tried unsuccessfully to fix the two prong plastic connector (part#1378579) that connects the coolant reservoir level sensor to the dashboard warning light. The female part is broken and held in place by gaffers tape. I bought a bunch of connectors from BMW Mobile Tradition but none were the correc...

Coolant reservoir connector
Greetings Sharkies. I received a coolant level check engine warning this weekend. The coolant level was okay. It was the connector to the float level that had slightly slipped off. I put it back on but, a short time later, the same warning and the same problem. I inspected the female part of the con...

The Last E24
Found this listing on Hemmings. Located in Marin County. Checked the BMW database which shows "326 9289" as the last BMW built which matches the certificate in the ad. Looks like it has the original TRX wheels and, according to the seller, is in excellent condition with regular service. ht...

coolant temperature sender
Do I need to put plumbers tape or some other form of sealant on the threads? Also, do I need to drain some coolant from the radiator before removing the old sender?
Many thanks for your help.

Thanks Phil. I've ordered the "ropes", actually cables, and they arrive tomorrow at the dealer. I'll work on it this weekend.

Seat back latches
My driver's side seat won't unlatch to fold forward enabling entrance to the back. Actually, to be accurate, one side, near the latch unhooks but the other side doesn't, near the consul doesn't. I see on OEM there is are two items called "ropes" that connect the seatback lever to the latch...

Re: Driveshaft?
Got the bad news yesterday. Two u-joints are bad,..the rear by the diff is the worse. It's the original shaft so it's been happily turning for 32 years. After weighing the kind offer here of a used shaft, along with the prospect of a driveshaft shop in the East Bay that would rebuild my shaft for ab...

Upper Radiator Hose
You guys should know that BMW no longer makes the upper radiator hose for the car. It's the weird one with the molded "t" that transfers water to the heater. Mine blew the other day and I found a simple work around. The upper radiator hose for the 535 and 735 is a close match but a little ...

Thanks for the response, Ken. I agree and that's why I'm going to insist tomorrow to replace the guibo, the center bearing, and the rear u-joint if necessary.

Driveshaft?
I've recently heard a loud squeaking noise emanating from underneath the car. It's loud only when going through turns, specifically left turns. We've checked suspension, exhaust and have narrowed it down to the driveshaft. The u-joints seem okay, along with the center bearing. We're pulling off the ...
