Re: 86 635CSI engine randomly cuts out

Hey guys just wanted to follow up with my issue.... So after swapping out BOTH the speed and reference sensor I was still having my car cut out/die after it would heat up for about 10-15 minutes. Pulled the ECU and noticed right away some of the connections seemed burnt, took it to my local mechanic...

Re: 86 E24 equipped with EWS system?

Thanks guys.

Ended up buying a rebuilt Bosch 059

And it solved my stalling/non start issue!

So I can confirm, no EWS for our ECU’s

As long as they are the same model #’s the ECU is plug and play. No coding required.

Re: 86 E24 equipped with EWS system?

So EWS as i understand it was a system impletmeeneted into bmw ECU’s at some point that “assign” unique rolling codes to your car/vin to prevent tampering or swapping of ecu’s.....

Well thats the best i understand it.

86 E24 equipped with EWS system?

Hey guys, Been working an ECU issue for my 1986 635csi...i have a bosch 059.... I would like to know if these ECU’s had the EWS system? I have been searching and searching and the best answer I could come up with was that “BMW introduced the EWS system in ECU’s in 1987” Not much in this forum as far...

Quick DME question (Replacement/rebuild)

Hey guys,

So i found out my stalling issue is due to a bad ECU, fried to be exact.

I was wondering if I should have this one to be repaired/rebuild or is it worth just buying a used unit?

And if i buy a new/used unit will i need some type of rolling code or how will the compability work?

Thanks!!
