My fan and its control has been working perfectly since I installed the 30A transistor.
I believe in my case the lower rated transistors which failed were crap and not capable of handling their rated amperage.
Tho’ it’s been several years, I do still hold my breath a bit when I turn it on.

Will an ‘88 M6 airbag 4-spoke car accept any fine spline wheel without histrionics (e.g. MTech 1)?

Re: UUC Swaybars
My recent UUC order for E24 short shift kit and DSSR rod has turned out quite poorly. Incorrect parts were shipped, no response to my emails, unable to get through to “customer service “ via phone over many weeks. I failed to take initial due diligence: Google “UUC problems” and it’s all there… I’ve...

Re: Power steering hose
I have an unneeded used hose noted as #1 above, from an ‘86 CSI… It is OEM BMW and is in excellent condition from end to end. Rubber hose sections good as new. You won’t find a better used one, if that’s the route you want to go. Open to a reasonable offer, Michael in NH D19EB83D-1EDA-4E5F-80A1-0A19...

Re: '88 635CSi Clutch engagement
FWIW I recently pulled the transmission on my (obviously expertly driven  ) 180K mile ‘86 CSI to replace the just-started-feeling-crunchy original clutch pieces/parts. Armed with everything I expected I would need, I found: -broken throw-out bearing; -reusable half-worn disk and strong intact ...

Re: Heater Control Valve
The situation with MTC valves and BMW’s complete units is ridiculous and has been for awhile. Until there is reason to believe that the quality of replacement internal valves has significantly improved, I believe a much better solution was posted by Anchored (thanks again): http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB...

Turner/Conforti ‘86ish 635 ECU chip for sale
Twenty years ago I tried a BavAuto ECU chip for my ‘86 635 and after 3 weeks returned it unimpressed. Three weeks ago I decided to f**k around a bit and bought a virtually new T/C chip, installed it in my well-running car and spent the last 250 miles paying attention while driving the same roads I’v...

Re: Heater blower transistor failure mystery...
Problem solved, but some mystery remains... After installing a suggested 2N5302 30A transistor I used a jumper wire from the the supply wire (Bu/Gn) at the AC switch (term5) directly to the control wire at the transistor mount under the hood to eliminate both the AC switch and the downstream wiring ...

Thanks for the suggestion, However... I have had a copy of the ‘86 CSi ETM you mention for as long as I’ve had my car, ~25 years now, And have used it many 100’s of times for a variety of issues, real and theoretical. It is the lack of a complete diagnostic connector “inventory” in the ETM that prom...

Has anyone made a “roadmap” listing the function of ALL the unused/unconnected diagnostic or optional equipment (e.g. airbag, rear cooler, Servotronic, etc.) connectors found under the hood, dash, and throughout the car? Sure would be useful... How about these 4, unconnected above the glovebox in my...

Re: Heater Control Valve - ($16 fix)
Done, pretty much as you described, using the E46 bracket. Works as well as my E24 one did when it used to work right. For the hose to the heater core (the lower one that needs significant re-routing) I rooted around a bit amongst my various parts cars to find an easy-to-fit preformed section. The h...

Re: Heater Control Valve - ($16 fix)
Thanks for posting; I picked up an E46 heater valve from my local yard (off a car that should never have been parted) and plan to install as you outline. To simplify hose connections, any reason you can think of that the valve can’t be mounted without regard to orientation I.e. mounted rotated 90°CC...

Re: Heater blower transistor failure mystery...
Thanks for your effort, but we’re way beyond that basic primer... The fact that the fan controller works as it should for the AC blower and the AC switch is working as it should eliminates any fan controller issues before the AC switch. The fact that the upgraded transistors fry almost immediately (...

Re: Heater blower transistor failure mystery...
Having tested and confirmed normalcy of all the pertinent wiring and function up to the critical AC switch, the only part of the circuit that remains potentially responsible is the connector (“C1” terminals 1,2,5,6) where the 3 wires for the transistor (power in, power out to motor, and the term #2 ...

I did not see any difference i.e. blowing transistors before vs. after I replaced my seemingly-good-old motor with a new one...NO difference. Unless your motor is blowing a 7.5 or 10 amp fuse while running on high speed as I described testing above, do me a favor and don’t replace your motor till yo...
