Water Pump e24 Cast iron vs pressed steel impeller
I received my replacement water pump for 1979 e24 635csi M90 (#5550216). The part number ordered was 11511705236 (part I received was labeled 11511705273 I don't believe an issue). However, the pump has a pressed steel impeller rather than a cast iron impeller on previous pump (refer photo, new pump...

Pilot / spigot bearing in crankshaft (M/T shaft support)
Hi, I am wanting to fit correct spigot bearing (needle vs ball bearing). Current crank shaft has spacer / reducer from 32mm and then a needle bearing, although the cage and needles had separated from the needle bearing "outside" sleeve. I bought the engine so not sure when this had happene...

Re: M90 distributor position ?
Thanks Bobbo, yes I expect all should point the same way.
Bought engine so not running yet, and putting into e9.
PS your inlet looks nice, I also had mine hydroblasted - think I will need to clean up surrounding parts so it doesn't stand out too much now!

Re: need help identify motor in 1979 635csi euro
FYI my M90 (# 5550216 July 1979) has the long water jacket and the "L" however like the other M90 photo does not have the ribs from the water jacket to the engine mount bosses (re your photo below the air slide) ?
Also my ECU is the same part number 0 280 001 114.

M90 distributor position ?
Hi the photo below shows the position of distributor on the M90 engine I have bought. The vacuum diaphragm points to the exhaust manifold side of the car. Photos I have seen of other cars (and the position of distributor in my e3 engine) is 180 degree different ? Is my distributor in wrong position ...

Big bore M90 - any reasons not to remove head ?
I bought an M90 (to go in e9), background largely unknown except it apparently has not been used for about 10 years. Inspection of bores and big end bearings (from sump) and overhead from rocker cover, appear to show good condition. However compression test does not show numbers I would like (160 ps...

Re: Rusty engine coolant pipe on M90 635 engine
Hi Hefeweizen I have just had a closer look and both are rusty on the inside. There is some pitting from outside, and I am not confident to wire brush and paint as I suspect I may get holes down the track. I am now leaning towards using the later B34 / B35 system of hoses and tee's to eliminated the...

Rusty engine coolant pipe on M90 635 engine
Hi, what do people do to replace the pipe under the inlet manifold ?
Is there a source for replacement, or are others making or using an alternative (hose and Tee's or modify hoses from later M30's ?) thanks
PS here are two of mine, both rusty
I have also asked e9 group

e24 635csi ignition module alternative?
Hi, fitting M90 to e9 and have M90 from RHD Manual 635csi (5550216) with wire harness and engine ECU but no ignition module or distributor cap or rotor. I believe ignition module should be 12141267459 (high cost) however am wondering if there is another Bosch ALTERNATIVE if I change the connector, t...

Re: 1979 635csi M90 Simple question ECU location
great thanks very much, I will study the looms closer and see if I can use my existing loom and keep ecu in the rear, thankyou. I may have some other questions along the way like understanding the wiring to the distributor and the connector that goes in the side of the distributor on the electronic ...

M90 Timing chain
Hello, on my M30B30 (1977) there is a dual chain, however the M90 3.5 (1979) I am about to fit has only a single chain.
Does anyone know why they have gone from a double chain on 3.0 ltr to a single chain on higher HP M90 ?

1979 635csi M90 Simple question ECU location
Hello, i have a M90 (1979 635csi) that I am fitting to an e9 (replacing my 3.0 ltr L jet). in my e9 I have the wire harness in the chase rail with the ECU under the rear seat, however the M90 wire harness is much shorter. Where is the ECU located in a 1979 635 ? and where does the main harness run o...
