Re: injection cleaning vacuum lines

I have always disconnected the white nylon line that comes from the cabin temp sensor, it is under the manifold and you need a hose that fits that nipple.

Re: Is this a way of tuning AFM

I had done the 9v battery test on my friend's great running identical car, his voltage started at .4 at idle and 7.04 volts at full open so I guess there is a substantial difference between years.

Re: Is this a way of tuning AFM

Thanks Tim,

I hadn't seen the 2nd reference where he wrote down the wrote down the segment volt outputs and started at a minimum of .14.
This may be a good starting point.

Re: Is this a way of tuning AFM

Yes , I've seen this great article.

Just wondering if anyone had done this before and approximately what voltage they were seeing at idle on a clean running 635.
This wiil give me an idea of where my "base" point should be.

Is this a way of tuning AFM

I have been having lots of trouble getting my 86 635 to pass smog ( way too rich ).99,000 miles I am probably going to test the cat next by using a vacuum test to see if it's clogged. In the meantime I tried this: Using a DMM I measured the output of the AFM at the output arm at idle (about 1000 RPM...

Re: Cold start injector fuel hose- the 'little perisher'

I forgot the part about getting the old clamp off.
I put a long narrow tip flathead screwdriver in the grooves on the clamp and tapped it around so I could unscrew it.
Be careful on this, you don't care about the old clamp or hose but the 8mm nipple is PLASTIC!

Re: Cold start injector fuel hose- the 'little perisher'

Just replaced this hose and this is how I did it. On the new hose I split the CSI end in 2 places about 3/8" from the end with a razor blade and put a hose clamp about 1/2 inch back from the cuts. The split allowed me to center the hose on the plastic nipple. Also the $3.99 11" Harbor Freig...

Re: Failing smog, waay too rich

Will check ATS value
Injectors are rebuilt, all go black equally in minutes.
AFM is from identical car that idles at 750 and runs perfectly.I have not opened it or touched idle screw.
Need to check Throttle body adjustment.
Will check how it runs open loop.

Re: Failing smog, waay too rich

Good points Brucey. Car is shifting fine with or without TPS connected so maybe TPS is OK. Have changed FPR, original was 3 bar so is new one. FPR hose does have vacuum, when I squeeze it I don't hear any leaks anywhere. No inline resistor on CTS. Just went out and started it, idle went up 200 RPM w...

Failing smog, waay too rich

1986 635 auto 99,000 miles NA Failed smog last year: CO GPM 106.62 Failed allowed 20.0 HC GPM 2.45 Passed allowed 2.5 NOx GPM 1.48 Passed allowed 4.5 First thing I did was new O2 sensor, then a different one still failing. So far I have: 1.Replaced wires and distributor cap. Fine 2.Replaced coolant ...
