Re: Starting issue - wiring??????

Just a quick update for any that might be interested. After a week and a bit of the car just sitting, I took a chance and used it on Friday, for the day. I used it as my work transport for the day and covered 150km thru the suburbs and stopped and started it 8 times and the good news is it didn't le...

Re: Starting issue - wiring??????

Ok. It started. Possibly good news but will wait and see. Used contact cleaner on a brush and gave the ecu terminals a quick clean and did the same on the connector plug. Put the cover on and remounted the ecu in place and yes the car started. Will leave the smaller controller off for the meantime u...

Re: Starting issue - wiring??????

So, I worked out that sitting is a good option and a reasonably comfortable way of working under the dash. Biggest issue is making sure you have all the tools to save getting up and down as your legs are under the door. Still, worked quite well. Also helps to have a mirror and good light to save hav...

Re: Starting issue - wiring??????

Nothing like starting a fault finding exercise by working out how to kneel down. 8-[ Contact cleaner was my first thought but it may just mask what the real problem is, but it could also prove a quick fix. If I can get the ecu out from under the dash i should at least be able to play with each wire,...

Starting issue - wiring??????

We all know that older cars are both a joy and a pain to live with. Up until a couple of weeks ago I was, in the most part, in the joy camp but that all changed one day when the car refused to start. Turned over and over and over, etc, etc, etc. and this was completely out of the blue. Starting with...

What's this tube for???

Whilst poking around the engine bay this morning I discovered a loose tube and I'm guessing its female partner. It disappears inside thru the firewall where the headlight adjustment tubes are.

I'm guessing its for vaccum but what does it control?

Re: Heater valve repair

Thanks for the suggestion on the possible problem. As I recover from a knee reco, how hard is it to get to the temperature regulator. Just wondering if its something that can be done whilst I'm layed up. Is it straight forward or one of those PINA jobs requiring reasonable flexibility and mobility i...

Re: Heater valve repair

Ok, so got the MTC valve. Picture speaks volumes for the quality of the item. The bulge in the mesh I had to move around in order to get the small washer to sit properly. Valve Quality.jpg The other issue I discovered was the size of the main washer on the MTC valve. Mine measure 31mm in diameter Vs...

Re: Heater valve repair

Hey thanks, great diagram. Ok, so the system works on each component using the -neg as switching. Easy enough to understand. It now has me wondering if the readings I'm getting as described previously are correct. I should be seeing an earth on the BN/GRN wire but I'm not. Maybe I'm not testing corr...

Re: Heater valve repair

So while I'm waiting for the valve to arrive I've been trying to test the wiring for the valve. My car is a 1986 and the wires to the valve are brown/green (BN/GRN) and green /black (GRN/BLK). When ignition is on, and testing just the wires to the valve (but NOT connected) my readings are: Dial on f...

Re: Heater valve repair

Wow. Ok. Didn't even think of Amazon. Here Amazon has no automotive products on their local site, and for a lot of things Amazon US will not ship to Aus so didn't look.

Assuming their pricing is USD, better paying $35 AUS.

Re: Heater valve repair

Yes, the joy in living in the land down under. The $30 USD MTC part from Pelican Parts turns into $100 AUS by the time you factor in the exchange and shipping. Even with the complete valve, the $300 USD turns into $450 AUS even with free shipping. Whichever option is going to hurt the hip pocket.

Re: Heater valve repair

That repair kit I haven't considered, but it seems I have two issues. The first being the no heat over 80kmh (suggesting loss of spring tension), and now heat all the time (because the rubber collar has completely torn. I'm leaning towards the MTC as I still have to consider postage (why is postage ...

Re: Heater valve repair

Ok, good start. What your saying seems to mirror what's on all the forums. Its just seems strange that a supposedly simple repair can be plagued with such failures. Its certainly not that valve failures are an isolated fault, so how can the repair be so hit and miss. Still happy to hear any other co...

Heater valve repair

Been doing a lot of research on this topic and all the forums seem to just come to an end with no suitable conclusion. My issue started with no heat over 80kmh but after dismantling the valve to see what the issue was, I've now got heat all the time. Bugger. I thought the solution was to install an ...

Re: AC blower refresh

That's a flap from the fresh air/air conditioned divider. Mine broke a pin and ended up in the bottom of the evapoartor just like yours.

Before putting the evap unit back in, stick your hear under the dash and look up. You should see this if one of the flaps is missing.

Re: Memory seats not working and loose

Not sure on the loss of memory functions but when I bought my 635 I too had rocking seats. Turned out the screw that held the back in place had fallen out of both drivers and passenger side. Just remove the plastic covers on both sides of each seat and make sure everything is in place and tight. Loo...

Re: Speaker Pod Repair

Just remove the old vinyl covers, carefully, clean the metal surface and foam back and glue back down. If the covers are lifting it means the original glue has failed so you should be able to separate the the vinyl and metal without too much drama. I used a steel rule to assist the separation. Here'...

Re: Speaker Pod Repair

Very good question. From the info I've been able to find, the durability is extremely good for their latest range of glues. Their cloth tape is unbelievable so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Its water and heat resistant but a cars interior, especially under the back window, is extreme. Sti...

Speaker Pod Repair

Firstly, this job would not have been considered without the brilliant write up back in Jan 2010 by Brucey on this forum. My covers had suffered the ravages of sun and time and had the usual distortion at the front and rear of both covers (forgot to take pictures). Separating the vinyl from the meta...

Re: A/C abilities

So, now that the car is all back together again and the weather certainly won't require the a/c to be used for cooling, it raises the question of how to use the a/c for defogging. After reading the owners manual, yes I did dig it out and read it, it doesn't mention the a/c at all for clearing the wi...

Sorry to hear the install didn't go as planned. I've just today completed my a/c project and put the interior back together again. Putting the console back in was a case of push, lift, squeeze, swear, hit and repeat until it finally gave in an jumped over the shifter gate and big cable connector. Lu...

Re: A/C abilities

So, sorted out the pressure switch by having to re-thread the drier. Not what I was expecting to have to do. In the end it probably didn't matter as with the R134 gas, a hi/lo pressure switch was needed so this was put into one of the new hoses. It will save the compressor if something goes wrong. A...

Re: A/C abilities

Before this project started I purchased the necessary TX valve, pressure switch and drier from Pelican Parts. Now I've come to fit them I find the drier and the pressure switch have different threads. Anyone else experienced this. Seem strange. Pressure switch P/N 64-53-1-386-971-M325 Drier P/N 64-5...
