I'm in the same boat, need a rear muffler/silencer for my 81 Euro. Do you have to order the SuperSprint from Europe? also, are there any other bmw models that might fit.

Forgot to add picture of the unit. Ok, took it off the car today. You guys are right, it's a regulator/fuel damper. Found one on line for big $. See link below. Thanks Ralph. I think you are correct. I did check realoem.com, but no dice. My car is hesitating, and I have switched out the fuel filter and pump and decided to check out the regulator as a culprit. The item circled looks original. The 'heel' of the pedal slides back toward the drivers seat to detach. I was able to remove mine today.

on a previous post i found what appears to be the hinge, see attached pix. it looks like the accelerator pedal just slides into this hinge from the front.

folks, i'm installing carpet but having trouble with the accelerator pedal. I'm assuming that it detaches so that you can lay the carpet and re-attach. thanks for the link. unfortunately, they don't seem to have this exact part, ie the mounting plate is attached to the chain via a carriage assembly, i just took a look at mine and it looks like it's one piece.

very slight rub on the front when turning at full circle, if i go slow it doesn't appear to rub.

Folks, wanted to provide an update. I ordered ignition wires for a 1982 and they fit my Euro 1981 perfectly. Yeeehaw!!!!! Thanks to everyone that helped me out.
