Big Clunk when trying to start

Having issues trying to start up. car wouldnt crank over. then tried letting the fuel pressure build after cranking over a bunch of times. when i did that, just heard a big "clunk". nothing more than that. no trying to catch fire, just clunk. reading that it could be the battery and thats ...

Does the M6 have a cold-start valve? That could be another culprit.
I don't believe the 88 m6s have a cold start valve. I'll check on the temp sensor. Appreciate the feedback.

So recently replaced fuel pumps. When the car sits for a day, it will not start up right away. Once i've cranked it over, it smells of gasoline flooding the engine, making it even harder to start.
