Re: “Check engine” light, Stomp Test for an 1989

take it for a ride and stomp on the brakes to see if they lock up. if it is really the ABS then you will lock up the brakes. If you get the pulse you expect from hard braking then I'd say its not ABS.

finally got my sensors from Ivo after being lost by fedex. Installed them over the weekend and took a nice 300 mile drive. all 4 were complete including grommets and plugs. all 4 worked perfectly.

Re: Sunroof refitting help required

I did this not too long ago. A real PITA. I removed it myself and it wasn't too difficult. putting it back in is a two man job for sure. three would be even better as I found myself trying to guide the roof back (without the guides) with my hands, another person doing the same on the passenger side ...

still waiting on my set from Ivo. they are held up in US customs at the moment. will be nice to have ABS again, as driving without them provides a bit of a sphincter pucker factor.

Wizard Radiator for sale. Never used

Last year I bought a Wizard radiator for both my M6 and L6. M6 installed perfect. good radiator. L6 is an automatic and I didn't take that in to consideration when i purchased it. Went to go pull my L6 radiator this afternoon and now that I've put a keen eye on it, it is significantly different. thu...

Re: location of ABS fuse M635

I noticed the ones from Ivo didn't have the connector. I figured I'll just have to snip off my old connector and see if I can't brush up on my soldering skills. The old ones will have to be cut away if I want to salvage that fancy grommet anyway. Options are pretty slim, i'll post an update when I'v...

Re: location of ABS fuse M635

The rear sensors are only for pre ‘86 cars. I’ve just recd. a pair which don’t fit my ‘87 car. I’ve asked Ivo if he is getting the later ones made. I didn't realize there was a difference. luckily mine is an 85, I guess. Is he getting them made post 86? What didn't fit for you? the sensor itself? o...

Re: New member - Could you help me with my cars history?

Yes, there were some "adjustment" done to the odometer for some reason. Just stupid to do such a thing... ](*,) Thanks! Gear probably broke and instead of repairing it they swapped it for a used one that happened to have lower mileage. Or someone tried to pull a sneaky trick even though m...

Re: Wizard Cooling radiator

I installed one in my M635 and didn't have any issues and no modifications were needed. It is a tight fit though, but once the fan is bolted on it looks about the same as with the old radiator. tight! No issues with the shroud and distributor either. I have one ready to install on my L6 this week, i...

Ok, turns out BMW San Francisco was wrong. they finally called to tell me they didn't actually have them in stock. Thanks for nothing BMWSF. The link provided by Stoffie is actually for front wheel speed sensors. BUT, I spoke with Ivo Christov who runs that e28 site and they are getting rear sensors...

Re: No start / now intermittent start 633CSi

As others have said, check connections in the areas you suspect for good fit and corrosion: coil, ecu etc. cap and rotor sounds like an easy and cheap swap as someone else mentioned. reference the ETM for your car, get a DMM and start probing. check that grounds are solid and test continuity along t...

My CC wasn't working when I bought my car. PO wasn't sure why it wasn't working. I figured it was dead and ignored until recently. I happened to be under the dash replacing a throttle cable and noticed the switch for the clutch was out of position and the loop was always closed. Moved the switch so ...

Auxiliary fan resistor

I finally found the source of why my fan wasn't working. At first I thought it was the resistor as I tested continuity up to the point of the 3 pin connector and it seemed fine. I had an extra resistor so swapped it and still didn't work. thats when I decided to test continuity on the 3 pin connecto...

Ended up having my local shop take a look. they put in a new filter and sealed it back up. All is well again. In fact I'd say it performs much better than it has since I"ve owned it. They said it had a good deal of metal shavings in it.

EDITED: I've now read the explanation of the test as you describe it (in that earlier link) and now understand the logic. So what I think this means is that you avoid a failure of something like our UK MOT by disconnecting all the sensors? if the sensor connected is the bad one it doesn't send a si...

How did you confirm the sensor failure? Disconnect all the sensors except one. drive the car above 15mph. if the ABS light comes on then its not that one. repeat process for all sensors till you find the sensor(s) that do not turn on the ABS light. I learned this from the bimmerforum link above, I ...

That did it. finally diagnosed as left rear sensor. Ron, thats a great picture. thanks! I believe I found them. I was expecting them to be under the seats. they were tucked up a little further behind the square grommet accessible from behind the seats. Had to dig around a bit, but they are there with some extra slack. Thanks again.

Ok, just found a thread that said 800 Ohms is good and anything over 2k Ohms is faulty. I'm going to assume my fronts are good for now and move on to inspecting and testing the rears unless anyone has something to add.
